Goede Conquers Challengers In Elko Speedway Win
(Elko, MN) Jacob Goede met the challenge of two late cautions to pick up
the win in the Jack Daniel’s 50 for the Budweiser Super Late Models Saturday
night at Elko Speedway. Mike Skaja made a triumphant return to Elko in
capturing the Jack Daniel’s 30 for the GhostRiders Sportsmen while Matt
Carlander made it two in a row with the win in the Coca-Cola Thunder Cars
Scherer Brothers Lumber Company 25 and Chad Tuma drove to the win in the
Scherer Brothers Lumber Company 20 for the ACDelco Power Stocks.
“I didn’t want to see that first yellow after I opened up the lead, but
Dean raced me on the restarts really clean,” said Goede, referring to
runner-up Dean Cornelius, in victory lane. “It just feels great to be
at the top of the list.” Goede started outside row two and grabbed the
lead from Benny Van Cleve on the seventh circuit. Cornelius got by Van
Cleve on lap 32, but by that time, Goede had checked out and was working his
way through lapped traffic. A spin on lap 41 put Cornelius on the back
bumper of Goede who was able to pull away. Another yellow on lap 45 gave
Cornelius one more chance. He was able to tap Goede a couple of times
before the checker, but Goede Was up for the challenge. Cornelius held
on to second followed by Van Cleve, Donny Reuvers and Conrad
Jorgenson.
Skaja returned to Elko Speedway from the Mid-American Series to capture the 30
lap main event for the GhostRiders Sportsmen. He had his work cut out
for him from the ninth starting spot but moved through the field into second
behind Doug Brown when the races only yellow flew on lap 23. Brown was
able to hold the lead for three laps until Skaja made the move on the low side
for the lead and eventual win. Greg Bieber moved past brown with just
two laps to go, but Brown charged back on the outside to claim second with
Bieber relegated to third. Ricky Martin returned to the division moving
his ride from the 11th starting spot to finish a strong fourth followed across
the line by Paul Nesius.
Defending Division Champion Matt Carlander showed patience in working his way
to the front and the win in the Coca-Cola Thunder Car 25. Carlander, who
started seventh, got by David Sellner, Jr. for the lead on the 16th lap.
A couple of late cautions helped both Roger Meyer, Dustin Mann and Kristopher
Morlean move around Sellner, who settled for fifth.
Fans were wondering if anyone could top Jeff Partington in the ACDelco Power
Stocks and Chad Tuma showed it could be done. Adam Wiebusch grabbed the
early lead but gave way to Tuma by the half way point of the yellow free 20
lap feature. Partington was able to slip by Chase Weber for the second
spot with four laps left but Tuma was up for the challenge. Partington
settled for second, with Chase Weber third followed by Dustin Tuma and Brock
Weber.
Dick Trickle will return to the high banks of Elko Speedway this Saturday
night, June 25th as Country Joe Homes presents the first of the three night
