Reuvers Rolls To Second Straight Win At Elko
(Elko, MN) Moving from the eleventh starting spot to victory lane at
Elko Speedway is not an easy task over the 50 lap features. But Donny
Reuvers made it look like a simple task in taking the lead on just the 19th
circuit, never looking back to capture the 3M 50 for the Budweiser Super Late
Models Saturday night. Randy Waibel held off a stout field for the win
in the 3M 30 for the GhostRiders Sportsmen, while Ted Reuvers (cousin to
Donny) picked up the checkers in the 3M 25 for the Coca-Cola Thunder Cars and
Chase Weber grabbed the win in the 3M 20 for the ACDelco Power Stocks.
Hornet feature wins were garnered by Lakeville’s Tim Ryan and Rob Schnickels,
Prior Lake.
A second lap pile-up in the Super Late Model feature claimed the cars of Steve
Murgic and A.J Rhoads, but left several other mounts wounded. Division
defending champion Jon Lemke took the early point but then incurred contact
causing a spin on the 7th lap. Darrin Giles inherited the lead with
Jacob Goede, Jamie Farrell and Rick Burns in tow followed by a hard charging
Steve Anderson. All the racing at the front allowed Reuvers to work
through traffic and wrestle away the lead on lap 19, never looking back.
Reuvers proved he was up for the challenge after withstanding a 48th lap
caution and pulling away for the win. Goede held on for second followed
by Giles, Brian Johnson and Farrell.
Waibel made it look easy for the win in the GhostRiders 30. He grabbed
the lead on the first circuit from Amy Woodward in cruising to the
victory. A hard fought battle between Adam Bendzick and Mike Felixberger
for most of the last 20 laps allowed Waibel to open a sizable lead.
Felixberger looped on the 24th trip ending his hope for a podium finish.
Bendzick held on for second followed by Greg Bieber, Josh Larson and
Steve Schultz.
It took Ted Reuvers 8 laps to claim the lead and the eventual win in the
Coca-Cola Thunder Cars 25. Reuvers had to withstand one challenge on the
restart after the races only caution flew on the 9th lap. Adam Wolfe
claimed the post on the restart only to see Reuvers get it back 4 circuits
later. Wolfe was able to hold on for second followed by Kris Morlean,
James Weeks and Ray Sandgren.
Chase Weber was able to hold off a determined Jeff Partington for the win in
the ACDelco Power Stock 20. Partington made a last lap pass underneath
Matt Ryan for the second spot. Ryan was able to hold on to third,
followed by Dustin Tuma and Steve Klose.
Racing continues Saturday night, June 11 with Carquest Night at the
Races. Carquest will also help with a benefit for the Minnesota Special
Olympics. Fans will also be entertained by a display of Tuner Cars and
Lowriders. For information, go to the track website at www.elkospeedway.com
