Reuvers, Eilen, Reuvers And Partington Post Memorial Wins At Elko
(Elko, MN) It was battles galore and a Memorial Day Weekend Saturday
night that will stay long in the memories of the drivers and race fans alike
after USG Night at the Races, Saturday night at Elko Speedway. Donny
Reuvers battled through the field to pull off the win in the USG 50 for the
Budweiser Super Late Models while his cousin Ted drove away for the win in the
USG 25 for the Coca-Cola Thunder Cars and Jeff Partington grabbed the
checkered in the USG 20 for the ACDelco Power Stocks. The closest racing
of the night was the battle for the win in the Mid-American/GhostRiders
Sportsmen Daytona 500 Challenge Series won by Jonathan Eilen.
Donny Reuvers was on the move from the green. By the races only caution
on lap 20, Reuvers had taken his mount from the eighth starting spot and moved
to third behind Jamie Farrell and Conrad Jorgenson who had battled
side-by-side for the first 20 circuits. Five laps after the green came
back out, Reuvers was able to get around Jorgenson and just four more circuits
later captured the lead from Farrell. Brian Johnson was able to muscle
the third spot away from Jorgenson bringing Steve Anderson with him for the
fourth spot. Anderson then made the move around Johnson for third.
Reuvers picked up his first win of the early campaign followed by Farrell,
Anderson, Johnson and Steve Murgic.
The Mid-Am/GhostRiders Sportsmen 50 was slowed by 4 cautions, with Jonathan
withstanding lap after lap of pressure to hold on for the win. Eilen
grabbed the lead after the first lap only to get pressure from a charging Andy
Jirik. A caution on lap eleven tightened the field and Eilen had his
hands full of the ride of Paul Neisius who continually looked to the high,
then low side for a passing lane. Eilen was able to withstand two
mid-race cautions only to see the yellow for the final time on lap 34.
The racing at the front allowed Steve Schultz to snake his way through the
field from his ninth starting spot to the third position on the restart.
Schultz got around Neisius on the inside with 12 circuits left and jumped to
the inside of Eilen with nine laps left. Eilen was able to hold on by no
more than a half car length the rest of the way to claim the win with Schultz
second followed by Neisius, Mike Skaja and Jason Taghikhani.
Ted Reuvers showed he was up for the challenge in the USG Coca-Cola Thunder
Car 25. Reuvers grabbed the lead after a mid race caution and never
looked back. He was followed across the line by Kris Morlean, Joe
Garafalo, Roger Meyer and Chris Cooley.
It took Jeff Partington 14 laps to get the lead in the USG ACDelco Power Stock
20. Once at the point, the veteran never looked back. Partington
got around Scott King who settled for the runner up spot, followed by Heath
Herman, Brock Weber and Jeremy Rypkema.
Racing continues Saturday night, June 4th with 3M Sponsor Appreciation
Night. For tickets and information, call the speedway at
