Elko Speedway Champs Honored
(Elko, MN) – A crowd of 400 competitors, crew members, family and race fans
honored the four 2004 Elko Speedway divisional champions Saturday night,
November 27th at Treasure Island Resort and Casino in Red Wing, MN.
Capping the night Budweiser Super Late Model Champion Jon Lemke, Elko
Sportsmen Champion Steve Schultz, Coca-Cola Thunder Car Champion Matt
Carlander and ACDelco Power Stock Champion Dustin Mann were all awarded the
Carlander Cattle Company six foot tall trophies, presented by their respective
divisions’ Brothers Jorgenson Rookie of the Year, Jake Ryan in the Super
Late Model division, Jeff Choban - Sportsmen, Joe Garofalo - Thunder Car and
Cliff Adee – Power Stock. The four champs also modeled their
championship jackets from Hoosier Tire with Lemke also showing off his new
Budweiser Champions leather coat presented by College City Beverage’s Annie
Robertson.
Darrell Hoekstra of Waste Management handed out cash awards to Carlander and
Jeff Partington for the most feature wins in the Thunder Cars and Power Stocks
division and to Ryan for the most fast qualifying times during the
season. Dar Halvorson picked up the True Value Mechanic of the Year
award while Lemke also received his ACDelco Super Summer Series Championship
trophy.
Over 600 fan ballots determined trophy winners in three categories. Fans
voted Ryan as the Most Popular Super Late Model driver while the same
accolades went to Duane Halvorson, Sportsmen; Ted Reuvers, Thunder Cars and
Bud Kane, Power Stocks. The fans designated Brian Johnson as the Super
Late Model Sportsmanship Award winner along with Greg Bieber, Sportsmen;
Conrad Jorgensen, Thunder Cars and Jeff Cook, Power Stocks. Race fans
also voted Rick Burns as the Super Late Model Most Improved Driver with Amy
Woodward designated for the Sportsmen, Kevin Lutz, Thunder Cars and Kelly
Wefel, Power Stocks.
Elko Speedway will begin its 40th year of competition on Saturday, April 23rd,
2005 with the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series set to begin on Saturday, April
