Allison And Jarrett To Headline Elko Speedway Anniversary

(Elko, MN)  Elko Speedway officials have announced that International Motorsports Hall of Fame members Bobby Allison and “Gentleman” Ned Jarrett will be part of a special 40th Anniversary Hall of Fame Night, Saturday, May 21st, 2005.  The two NASCAR Cup Champions will be part of a special night dedicated to the drivers from the first 40 years of racing at the 3/8 mile track just south of Minneapolis.

Allison has raced several times over the years at Elko and is third on the all-time Cup wins list with 84.  The 1983 Winston Cup Champion was also the series runner-up five times and boasts three Daytona 500 wins along with three 2nd place finishes.  His illustrious career also includes over 600 short track victories.

Jarrett was given the nickname “Gentleman Ned” because of his easy-going nature on and off camera.  However, his racing style was anything but easy-going as he was known for his aggressiveness and his penchant toward taking a gamble on the track.  Jarrett posted wins in 50 of the 348 National Series races he competed in.  He will forever be remembered for his 1965 Southern 500 victory, where he finished 14 laps ahead of the second place car.

Allison and Jarrett will join a host of former Elko Speedway champions and competitors for the Hall of Fame Night.  Tickets for the event will be available on the speedway web site at www.elkospeedway.com or by calling Elko Speedway at either 952-461-RACE (7223) or 800-479-3630.  Elko Speedway is located just 30 minutes south of downtown Minneapolis, one mile west of Hwy. 35 on County Road 2.
