Murgic Magic Returns To Elko Speedway

(Elko, MN)  Veteran driver Steve Murgic showed some of the “old magic” at Elko Speedway Saturday night, reaching deep into his bag of tricks to capture the win in the Budweiser Super Late Model 40.  Murgic held off a determined Brian Johnson in posting the victory.  Mike Skaja picked up the win in the Elko Sportsmen 30 with Mark Storlie victorious in the Coca-Cola Thunder Car 25, Scott King winning the ACDelco Thunder Car 20 and Dan McInnis picking off the Legend Car win.

Murgic's magic returned in a race that saw four cautions but the veteran showed he was up for the task on each restart lining up side-by-side with Brian Johnson.  A lap 27 caution retired the then third and fourth place running cars of Joey Miller and Jake Ryan after the two tangled coming out of turn two.  Points leader John Lemke moved to the third spot and dogged both Murgic and Johnson the final 13 circuits.  Murgic edged Johnson at the line with Lemke, Donny Reuvers and Jacob Goede in tow.

It took 18 laps for Skaja to wrestle the lead away from Paul Neisius but Skaja showed strength in pulling away for the Elko Sportsmen win.  Neisius held on for second in front of Doug Brown, Jeff Choban and Lynn Peterson.

A last lap final turn caution set up the win for Storlie in the Coca-Cola Thunder car feature.  It appeared that Conrad Jorgenson had the win wrapped up but the caution set up a green-white-checkered dash.  Storlie was able to edge out Jorgenson at the line with Kevin Lutz finishing third followed by Matt Carlander and Adam Wolfe.

A post race disqualification brought Scott King into the winners circle in the ACDelco Power Stocks feature.  Dustin Mann claimed the runner-up spot followed by Dustin Tuma, Jeff Cook and Cliff Adee.

McInnis proved to be the class of the field for the Legend Cars in motoring into victory lane.  McInnis was able to best Nate Wratz, Robby Carter, Tracy Olene and Kim Kraus in picking up the win.
