NASCAR Stars Marlin, Wallace, Biffle And Kvapil Heading To Elko Speedway's NEXTEL Cup Night …One More To Be Added
NASCAR Nextel Cup stars Sterling Marlin, Kenny Wallace and Greg Biffle have
been added to the line-up at Elko Speedway’s Nextel Cup Drivers Night,
Saturday, August 21st. Elko officials had already announced that NASCAR
Craftsman Truck Series defending Champion Travis Kvapil will also be joining
the star studded field.
The Kevin Harvick race team was forced to pull out of the event because of the
points race Harvick is involved in. Harvick is currently tied for ninth
in the battle for the top ten spots of the drivers that will compete in the
final ten races of the season for the championship. The team decided
they need to concentrate on both the Busch race and the Cup race at Michigan
International Speedway on the weekend of the 21st. Another tried and
true Cup Star will be added to the line-up to replace Harvick.
Marlin is only one of three drivers ever to win back-to-back Daytona 500’s,
joining Richard Petty and Cale Yarborough in that short list. Marling
posted those wins in ’94 and ’95. Marlin led the Cup points
standings for 25 weeks in 2002.
Wallace is a veteran of anything that has wheels and a motor competing in Cup
races, Busch races and dabbling with the Craftsman Truck Series. His
racing bloodlines run thick and long as his father Russ and older brothers
Rusty and Mike have also enjoyed successful racing careers. Wallace,
better known by his nickname “Herman” has become one of the best known
personalities in the industry.
Biffle is another competitor who can drive the wheels off most any
vehicle. He first got notice after dominating Arizona’s Winter Heat
Series for Late Model stock cars in both 1995 and 1996. The 1997
Craftsman Truck Series Rookie of the Year backed up his prowess gaining
the Busch Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year Award in 2001 getting a
full-time Cup ride in 2003. He took little time picking up his first win
gaining the checkered flag at the mid-season 400 at Daytona International
Speedway. Biffle completed his rookie year with three top-five and six
top-10 finishes.
Kvapil moved over to the Toyota race program in his current campaign and
claimed Toyota’s first ever Truck Series win late last month at Michigan
International. A Wisconsin native, Kvapil holds a NASCAR record that is
not likely to be bettered. Last season Kvapil completed all but one lap
of the entire NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season. Kvapil is being
brought to Elko Speedway by Burnsville Toyota where he will be making an
appearance and signing autographs from 11am until 1pm on the 21st.
All the NASCAR guests will be taking part in a VIP dinner at Elko Speedway on
August 21st. They will then be involved in an autograph session before
racing against each other in a grudge race. For tickets and event
information, including VIP Dinner arrangements, fans are urged to call the
speedway at 952-461 RACE (7223) or keep an eye on the speedway’s website at:
