Tony Stewart, NASCAR Dodoge Weekly Series Teams Highlight Elko Wednesday
by Gregg McKarns
June 11, 2003
ELKO, MN- Defending NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Tony Stewart's visit to Elko
Speedway Wednesday night highlighted an action packed NASCAR Dodge Weekly
Series night of racing. Stewart wheeled his borrowed ride to victory in
the thirty lap match race against the top local talent. Then point
leader Jacob Goede chased Stewart to the double checkers, falling just inches
short of victory.
NASCAR Budweiser Late Model competition witnessed Dan Fredrickson hold Steve
Murgic at bay for the final nine laps, making Fredrickson the first repeat
winner in the division this season. Paul Neisius and Mike Skaja were
joined by Jake Ryan in a three way battle for the lead which Neisius would
claim at the finish of the Miller Lite Sportsman 30. Skaja settled for
second with Ryan finishing in the final podium position.
Multiple restarts due to caution periods allowed Ted Reuvers to dart past
Danny Weber and into the lead late in Coca-Cola Thunder Car feature
competition, but his lead would be short lived as Jeff Choban muscled his way
to victory. A clean sweep was achieved by Exhaust Pros of Northfield
Street Stock competitor Michael Meszaros when he won both his heat race and
the feature event.
Elko Speedway hosts the Eve of Destruction this Friday night featuring the Big
Dawg Monster Truck and a School Bus Figure 8 race as well as many other
events. Spectator gates will open at 5:30 Friday with destruction
beginning at 7:30. Cedar View Electric presents NASCAR Dodge Weekly
Series action on Saturday night with the NASCAR Budweiser Late Models, Miller
Lite Sportsman, Coca-Cola Thunder Cars, Exhaust Pros of Northfield Street
