Anderson Anchors Dodge County Fair with Super Stunner

By: Chris Stepan

Kelly Anderson capped off a fun-filled day at the annual Dodge County Fair in Kasson, MN with a dominating performance in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature on Sunday night.

Anderson started on the pole for the Super Stock main event and left the racing to the drivers battling for positions behind him as he steadily pulled away from the field on his way to a crushing performance in tonight’s main event.

Bill Clemens, Nick Herrick and Kevin Hager were in a great battle for second for most of the event, while Anderson pulled out to a sizeable lead early in the going. Clemens and Herrick both slipped by Hager into second and third and then began to battle hard for the runner-up spot until Herrick’s tire went down, ending his shot at a top five run.

Clemens continued his pursuit of Anderson, but Kelly was too far gone and cruised to his first DCS feature win of the season tonight. Clemens came home in second with Hager coming across the line in third. Dustin Nelson and Mark Oletjenbruns stormed from 17th to 5th at the line.

Albert Wytaske continued his total dominance of the Midwest Modified division tonight with an easy win from the second row. Wytaske took the lead at the start of the feature and raced to a big enough lead to hold off challenges from Jesse Frericks and Chad Herman toward the end of the feature event. Frericks and Herman put on a good battle for second for quite a few laps, with Frericks taking the spot and setting off after Wytaske, but Albert was too far out front and was able to hold on for the win.

Jade Anderson and Jeff Ringenberg rounded out the top five finishers at the line.

Dan Gullikson and Jeff Brauer reacquainted their battles at the front of the Street Stock field tonight in the feature event. Brauer took the lead at the start of the main event and looked as if he was in good shape to pick up his first DCS feature win of the season tonight, but Gullikson had other plans. Gullikson pulled even with Brauer just past the ½ way point in the feature and would not give up the lead for the remainder of the event.

Brauer hung close, but Gullikson was on a mission tonight and held the lead to the checkered to pick up his 3rd feature win of the weekend and 15th of the season. Steve Eischens, Tom MCEldowney and Chuck Nerland were engaged in a great battle for third throughout the entire event as well. Eischens capped off the run with a third place finish over McEldowney and Nerland.

The USRA Modifieds put on a great show as usual with Tim Donlinger leading from the start to pick up his first DCS feature win of the season after being very close over the past few weeks. Ron Schreiner and Steve Wetzstein pressured Donlinger throughout most of the show, but Donlinger was up to the challenge and held off all challenges to cap off the DCS fair with the win. Schreiner held off Wetzstein, Tommy Myer and Justin Boney for second at the line.

This Wednesday, the WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series returns to the Dodge County Speedway along with USRA Modifieds and next Sunday, regular racing returns to the track with a 6pm start time. For more information about DCS, check out the track’s website at www.dodgecountyspeedway.com
