Noble Wins 599th Career Feature
By Bill Nelson

August 5, 2006 - After a couple early day showers the afternoon and evening were perfect for racing in Southern Minnesota with a good field of cars on hand for the racing action.

Dan Holland paced the Sunplace Tanning WISSOTA Street Stocks for the first lap with Allen Gessell Jr. quickly moving into the second spot on the opening lap.  Danny Hanson moved into the fourth spot on lap two as Scott Olson moved alongside of Gessell Jr. for the second position.  Gessell was working the bottom side of the speedway while Olson ran the momentum line up high .  Gessell was making the bottom work and moved alongside of Holland for the top spot with four completed.  Eleven to go and Olson joined into a three wide race for the lead.  Gessell dropped back slightly on the next lap with Hanson moving up to race with him.  Hanson was flying around the top and moved from the fourth spot and into the lead on lap eight and slowly pulled away from the field.  Gessell held the second spot while Olson and Holland were still working for the third spot.  With five to go Gessell lost the handle on his machine allowing Holland into second and Olson third.  Chuck Nerland and Jim Gustafson continued their race long battle for position until three to go when Gustafson took over the fourth position.  Hanson pulled out to a good lead and cruised home with the victory over Holland and Olson.

Adrian Noble led out of turn two during the opening lap of the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature event with a huge pack of cars charging behind him.  Jerry Young quickly moved into second while Mike Sorensen, Joe Bunne and Craig Bentzin were three wide for the third position.  Bentzin took control of the spot on the third circuit while young tried to gain ground on Noble up front.  Thirteen to go and Noble was slowly pulling away from the field. Bunne was busy putting moves on Bentzin for the third spot while Kenny Wytaske moved into the top five.  A caution with eight to go was not what Noble wanted to see.  On the restart both Young and Bentzin worked past Noble to take over the top two spots respectively.  Another restart two laps later saw Wytaske move into the third spot as the top two pulled out to a good advantage over the rest of the field.  Young was the class of the field slowly pulling out to a six car length advantage and taking his first win of the season and the first win at the speedway in a couple years.  Bentzin came home second with Wytaske third.

Jared Boumeester looked to be shot out of a canon as he exited turn two during the start of the Sunplace Tanning WISSOTA Super Stock feature while the rest of the field searched the track for their preferred line.  Two and three wide battles were the norm through the field for the first three laps of racing action as Boumeester pulled out to a three quarter straight away lead.  Ryan Siegle eventually took control of second with Dustin Nelson running on his inside rear quarter in third.  Tim Johnson moved inside of the top five with five laps completed.  Twelve laps left and Boumeester was still hauling the mail out front with a commanding lead while the second through fifth positions were running in single file formation behind him.  A caution with nine to go allowed Nelson to work past Siegle into the second spot.  Tim Johnson quickly moved into third with Steve Thomas following him through into fourth.  Nelson continued to put pressure on the leader as the final caution flew with three to go.  On the restart Boumeester continued to control the field with Nelson working to his low side.  On the white flag lap Nelson got the run he wanted out of two and took a slight lead into turn three.  Exiting turn four the two were virtually dead locked as they flew down the straight to the flag mans checkers.  Boumeester was credited with the win by about 1foot with Nelson and Johnson rounding out the top three.

Paul Novotny led lap one of the Kramer Motorsports WISSOTA Late Model action with Ben Mattick close behind in second.  Mike Prochnow quickly moved from sixth to third on the opening lap with Adam Hensel and Jay Irhke racing for the fourth spot.  Three laps into the event Mattick moved around Novonty for the lead and would never be headed again.  Prochnow and Hensel also move around Novotny for the second and third spots.  Six completed and Hensel was trying to work Prochnow on the bottom side of the track. Ihrke now sat solidly in the fourth position as everyone was watching the second place battle.  This battle ended with nine to go as Hensel dived under Prochnow but lost control of his car spinning in turn four and bringing out the only caution of the event.  Mattick cruised to his second win of the season followed by Prochnow and Ihrke.

The Bigelow Homes USRA Modifieds had a tough time getting started tonight with only one lap complete the first caution flew.  On the restart the leader of lap one Jay Ihrke slowed suddenly on the front stretch but was able to coast around to the infield as Todd Scharkey and Mark Noble battled for the lead.  The second caution came out with four completed.  Noble led the charge into corner one while Bob Timm dove to his bottom exiting turn two and took the lead.  Noble kept the pressure on for two more laps until Timm took control of the race.  Eighteen to go and Scharkey moved up alongside of Noble as the two ran side by side for second.  Some big charges were going on further back as Mike Sorensen, Tim Donlinger and Steve Arpin were all coming to the front after starting towards the back of the field.   Sixteen to go and nineteenth starting Aprin moved into the fifth spot.  Noble and Scharkey continued to swap positions as they raced for second.  Noble finally took control again with fifteen to go as Brad Waits moved up to race with Scharkey for third with Arpin in fourth.  Arpin cleared and then moved up to race with Waits for third as Noble gained ground on Timm again.  The final caution came with five to go as Mike Spaulding laid fluid around the top side of the speedway.  Arpin’s run came to an end as he pulled to the infield overheating.  On the restart Timm led into one as Noble shot by in the corner.  Thirteenth starting Donlinger was now working on Scharkey for the third spot with Sorensen looking to their inside.  Donlinger and Sorensen both cleared Scharkey.  On the last lap Donlinger moved past Timm to take the second spot while Noble cruised on for the win.  The feature win was Noble’s career 599th feature win.
