Outstanding Features Highlight #2 Of Featherlite Fall Jamboree
By Bill Nelson
September 23, 2005
Spring Valley MN - A stout WISSOTA Street Stock field to the track
first. A very fast and smooth racing surface greeted the
competitors as they raced all around the speedway. After a three wide battle
for the lead on lap one Kevin Hager came out the victor with Jamie Johnson and
Danny Hanson racing for second early on. Great racing was going
throughout the field as some fast cars started deep in the pack. With
seventeen to go Johnson worked past Hager to take the lead while Hanson moved
up for a race for second with Hager. Thirteen to go found Hanson working
on Johnson up front. A caution with twelve to go bunched up the field
for a restart. On the restart a hard battle up front was won by Johnson
as the front group raced close together for four laps. Cory Crasper
found a groove to his liking and moved past Hanson for second. Chuck
Nerland started to put pressure on Hanson for the last five circuits as the
two ran on the rear bumper of Crasper. Johnson was too strong up front
though and took home the win and the $400 first place check along with other
sponsor prizes.
The thirty five lap O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring
Series $4,000 to win show will be one everyone will talk about for years to
come. UMP Hotshoe Chad Kinder started on the pole alongside of WISSOTA
National Champion Kent Arment. Kinder took off from the green with Trent
Follmer racing with Arment for second. On the smooth and tacky track the
rest of the field ran two and three wide with fierce battles circling the
track. Follmer spun with thirty two to go bunching up the field once
again. On the restart Kinder took off like a rocket with Mike Hejna
moving quickly into second. Neil Eckhart quickly made it know that this
local racer was out for serious business as he moved into third. Again
the field ran three wide with racing for each position the norm. Twenty
eight to go and Eckhart took over the second spot as Kinder continued to pull
away from the field. Hejna retook second just before a caution flew with
twenty two to go. On the restart Kinder led, Hejna second and Eckhart
battled with Tommy Myer for third. With eighteen to go Kinder had a half
straight lead on the field as the field started to progress to the bottom of
the speedway. Sixteen to go saw the hopes of Kinder go flat as his left
rear tire gave out handing the lead to Hejna. By this time Myer had moved into
the lead and was giving Hejna fits. Nine to go and Tim Donlinger and
Kelly Shryock moved up a groove off the bottom to try and move forward.
Donlinger was having a problem holding his exit line while Shryock found the
grove to run. With five to go Shryock cracked the top five on this new
line. Three to go he moved into fourth. Two to go he moved past Eckhart
for third. As he crossed the finish line Shryock and Myer were side by
side as the crowd jumped to their feet. Shryock took the spot about 3
car lengths behind Hejna going into one. Coming out of two the #3 car
got a great run and pulled alongside of Hejna going into three. Coming
out of four Shryock got the advantage and pulled his drivers door alongside of
Hejna’s nose at the line to win by less that half a car length. It was
a great race as Shryock started twenty fourth in the thirty car field and
until the last ten looked content to finish about tenth. Shryock took
home the sponsor gifts and the $4,000 first place check for the incredible
run.
