Drivers Converge On Deer Creek Speedway

Spring Valley MN - Drivers and fans from a dozen different states and Canada
converged on Deer Creek Speedway on this the opening night of the 7th Annual
Featherlite Fall Jamboree. Although the car count was down slightly from
previous years some of the heaviest hitters in modified racing were on hand
during the weekend. This event in its fourth season at the speedway has
become more than a race. It is an event and a tradition to a lot of the
top notch modified racers and fans.
52 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds checked into the speedway racing for the $500
first place prize. Kevin Adams showed why he is a threat to win
everytime he is on the track. Of course starting on the front row
doesn’t hurt either. Adams jumped out to the early lead with Greg
Pfeifer Jr, Kenny Wytaske and Jeff Brauer in tow. Further through the
pack the cars where three and four wide battling for positions on the slick
track. Brauer settled into second while Wytaske and Pfeifer
raced for third. Greg Erickson and Jason Cummins were working through
the field and were side by side for fifth with sixteen to go. A caution
with fifteen to go slowed the field. Adams again checked out to a quick
lead with Cummins and Pfeifer racing for third behind Brauer. Another
caution with ten to go was what Cummins was hoping for. On the restart
Adams took off to the lead with Cummins quickly moving into second. Brauer
settled into the third spot as the top three moved quickly away from the
field. Running nose to tail against the wall over the final circuits saw
Adams hold onto his advantage and take home the win with Cummins and Brauer
rounding out the top three. Adams entered the Featherlite Trailers
victory lane and received awards from the following sponsors. A set of
poker chips from Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Sweater from Reich Concrete and hats
from Featherlite and Centex Homes.
85 USMTS Modifieds were on hand to do battle for the $2,000 first place money
on this night. On the initial start pole sitter Mike Sorensen lost his
mount in corner one collecting three other cars in the process. With the
restart Brad McEwan took advantage of moving up to the front row as he pulled
into the early lead with Bob Timm close behind in second. Mark Noble and
Tony Fraise battled for third as they circled the track in a side by side
formation. Bob Timm quickly moved back up front as the field settled
down for a long green flag run. Deeper in the pack the racing was
furious with many two and three wide wars being waged. With twenty seven
to go Dean Mahlstedt, Noble and Tommy Myer were running three wide for third
behind McEwan. Behind them Steve Arpin, Jim Horejsi and Kent Arment were
racing for sixth. Timm and McEwan slowly started to pull away as the
race continued its green flag laps. With twelve to go McEwan
was able to find a quicker way around the track and moved under Timm for the
lead. Noble and Myer continued their race to the checkers with Myer
taking fourth ahead of Noble. In victory lane McEwan was excited about
his first ever USMTS win and thanked Featherlite, Centex Homes, Reich Concrete
and everyone else involved with this event.
