Teske Dominates WISSOTA Late Models
By Bill Nelson

June 18 - Spring Valley MN - By far the weather on this night was the most perfect of the season.  A great field of cars were on hand 134 strong with a very nice crowd on hand for this mid-June race. The racing activities for the night were sponsored by Images of Kasson.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks pulled onto the track for their feature race with a three wide battle for first through the first two corners and a four wide race to the line for the completion of the first lap with Jeff Nelson, Jim Gullikson, Tony Horsman and Steve Eischens all battling for the top spot.  Gullikson eventually gained control with a caution waving with only two laps completed.  Gullikson took the lead on the restart and never looked back while the rest of the field was locked up in some great battles.  Eischens and Nelson raced for second early on with Jared Loos looking for a way past.  With most of the front runners using the low line around the speedway Danny Hanson had the top side working as he moved through the field.  The final caution flew with seven to go and found Hanson in seventh after starting tail end from the first caution. With five to go Loos was soundly in second and Hanson was battling with Eischens for third.  Steve was running well and made Hanson work for everything.  Chuck Nerland saw the Hanson line and found it to his liking as he worked into the top five after starting thirteenth. Hanson started to pressure Loos for the second spot but ran out of time following him and Gullikson across the line.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds piled into turn three taking out three cars with another four cars involved in the first lap malay.  On the complete restart Kenny Wytaske and Jason Cummins battled for the lead. These two would run one-two for the rest of the race with Wytaske holding the point.  Cummins worked the track with many different lines during his effort to take home the win.  Early on Greg Pfeifer Jr. and Tyler Clark were racing hard for third.  These two battled for five laps and one caution flag with Travis Krause working right behind them.  The Midwest Modifieds had some great two and three wide action throughout the field as they all battled for position for most of the race. Eventually Pfeifer gained the third spot with Krause making the move into fourth with Clark rounding out the top five.  Cummins had two good runs in the last three laps in an effort to take over the top spot but Wytaske was not to be denied on this night.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks had a tremendous show tonight with a great field of cars including some travelers from South Dakota.  On the first lap the front of the field ran four wide to determine who would lead at the line with Dan Nissalke getting credit for lap one.  Dustin Nelson was moving early and was into second with Ferlin Miller tagging close behind him.  Nissalke was running the middle of the track with Nelson bumping the infield and Miller scraping the wall.  With four laps completed they went three wide for the lead with Nelson gaining the spot.  Behind them Cole Queensland and Ryan Siegle battled for fifth with Dave Haberman sitting in fourth.  With twelve to go Miller moved into second and Haberman moved up to battle with Nissalke for third. After a restart with eight to go JB Stortz joined into the fray up front as Haberman. Nissalke and Queensland had a great race going for third. Miller kept pressuring Nelson up front.  The battle for third is what everyone was watching though with Queensland and Nissalke battling close and hard.  The final caution of the race came out for a spin in one just as Queensland had completed the pass on the backstretch and was pulling away from Nissalke for third.  Reverting back to the previous lap Nissalke was credited with third by a nose.  On the restart Stortz moved past Queensland for the fourth spot while Nelson came home with the win followed by Miller and Nissalke.

The USRA Modifieds had the crowd thrilled with some great racing action again tonight with Jay Poidinger, Mike Sorensen and Karl Fenske battling three wide for the first lap.  Sorensen gained the spot while Fenske took over third.  Neil Eckhart and Ryan Ruter got together sending both to the pits with damage.  Eckhart returned by the incident ended Ruter’s night.  Fenske took the lead on the restart followed by Tim Donlinger who was working the middle groove to perfection.  With sixteen to go the modifieds were still two and three wide through the field with Donlinger working around Fenske for the lead.  Nate Wasmund was having a great night and worked into fourth with sixteen to go.  Brad Waits also was coming on strong right behind Wasmund.  With twelve to go Wasmund, Fenske and Waits were three wide for third behind Sorensen and Donlinger.  Donlinger pulled out to a commanding straightaway lead as Waits started to pressure Sorensen for second.  Two quick cautions with less than five to go set up a fast dash for the win.  Donlinger held on for the win with Sorensen and Waits rounding out the top three.

Roger Torgerson took the lead at the drop of the green flag in the Classic Dwarf Car feature with Rick Utley in second.  Mike Gaines moved into third and put pressure on Utley for the second spot with thirteen to go.  Todd and Brian Kiehne followed through into fourth and fifth. Gaines slipped up and Brian Kiehne worked into third as Utley kept working Torgerson up front.  Pulling alongside occasionally but Torgerson was too strong and came home with the win.

If you watched the leader in the WISSOTA Late Model feature the race was pretty boring but throughout the pack there was some great racing.  Even while lapping most of the field Mark Teske could put his car anywhere on the track and steadily pulled away from the field.  Only one caution slowed the high powered cars during the night with a spin with 14 to go. Jerry Bloom used the restart to his advantage and moved into second with Ben Mattick dropping back to third.  Lance Matthees moved inside the top five battling with last weeks feature winner Paul Novotny.  Bloom held the second spot for a few laps until Mattick got the bottom working again and retook second.  Troy Brand moved past Matthees and Novotny and had his sights set on Bloom for third.  With nine to go Brand moved into third with Brad Waits, Novotny and Bloom three wide for fourth.  Waits took the spot and Matthees moved past the other two into fifth.  Barry Underdahl came on strong later and worked the high side to battle with Matthees for fifth as the white flag came out.  Teske cruised home to the half lap win followed by Mattick, Brand, Waits and Matthees.

Next Week Featherlite trailers is proud to bring the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint cars to Deer Creek.  The 410 sprint cars will be on hand along with the WISSOTA Super Stocks as all other classes take the night off.
