Month Of Firsts On Tap At Deer Creek Speedway
By Bill Nelson
May 22, 2005 - Spring Valley MN - The special events calendar for the next
month at Deer Creek Speedway is full of firsts as the speedway rolls into the
month of June.
Up first on May 28th will be the O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified
Touring Series. The traveling series featuring the best Modified drivers
from the Midwest will be on hand for their first visit at the speedway for the
season for the Southern Minnesota Spring Challenge. Also on hand for the
nights racing action will be the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and the WISSOTA
Street Stocks. The $2,000 to win Modified event and the $300 to win
Midwest Modified and Street Stock events will attract a great field of cars in
the three divisions. Last season Kelly Shryock came home with the
feature cash on his way to another USMTS Points championship. The event
is sponsored by Valley Featherlite of Rochester.
June 4th will see all six regular classes of cars on hand at the
speedway. A few additional WISSOTA Late Models are expected to be in
attendance as the drivers gear up for the biggest Late Model event in the
history of Deer Creek Speedway.
Monday June 6th the stars and cars from the Stacker 2 World of Outlaws Late
Model Series will make their first ever appearance at Deer Creek Speedway for
the running of the 26th Annual Gopher 50 Charity Late Model race. Race
fans will get an added bonus when they enter the gates at Deer Creek Speedway
on June 6th for the 26th Running of the Gopher 50 Charity Late Model
Race. Fans and competitors will notice camera crews set up around the
facility capturing footage that will later be replayed on National TV.
“This is a great addition to the Gopher,” stated Jerry Ingvalson of the
Blooming Prairie Lions. “It is the first time in the Gopher’s 26
year history that the race will be televised,” he commented. Deer Creek is
also excited for the coverage; it too will be a first time that an event at
the facility will be televised. “We couldn’t be more excited,”
stated Randy Queensland with Deer Creek Speedway. "We are proud to
be part of this great race," he continued.
The event sanctioned by the World Of Outlaw Stacker 2 Late Models and will
feature the Dirty Dozen consisting of well-known national drivers, Scott
Bloomquist, Billy Moyer, Dan Schlieper, Clint Smith, Dale McDowell, Tim
McCreadie, Darrell Lanigan, Chub Frank, Steve Francis, Rick Eckert, John
Blankenship and Brian Birkhofer. These and many local and additional
national competitors are expected to be on hand for this event. Many of
the local modified stars will be on hand also to compete for the USRA $1,000
to win 30 lap modified event.
The race will be replayed on the SPEED Channel at 1:30 p.m. on July
30th. Tickets are still available for the event but they are going fast,
call 1-877-DCS-Race today. Proud sponsors of the Gopher 50 include
Valley Transportation, Inc., Premier Banks of Rochester and Peterbilt of
Winona.
Deer Creek Speedway will then come back with two more nights of regular racing
action. On June 25th the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Cars will then make
their first ever appearance at the highbanked speedplant. The WISSOTA
Super Stocks will be on hand on this Saturday night to support the high speed
winged warriors as they set new lap and speed records at the speedway.
Featherlite Inc. of Cresco comes on board as the sponsor of this exciting
event.
This IRA event concludes 4 firsts for Deer Creek Speedway within the next 30
days.
