Sabraski, Aho, Wehlage and Donlinger Dominate Features

Spring Valley MN - On Keuhn Motor company night mother nature danced rain showers around the speedway.  With the track ready for racing and the pits area still firm the races were on at Deer Creek Speedway.  152 cars checked into the pit area for a very fast paced night of racing action as a slight mist fell on the track after the completion of the heat races and the “B” Features.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds hit the track and rolled in the light mist that fell just before the start of their feature event.  The little moisture helped to tack up the already fast speedway with Shane Sabraski taking the early lead in his first visit to the speedway this year.  Ben Anderson and Bryan Siercks battled for second and the field tried to sort out the running order.  Anderson dropped back slightly and Dan Wheeler made the charge up to battle with Siercks for second.  A restart with twelve laps remaining bunched up the field with Sabraski holding the point on the restart.  Derrick Bridley and Siercks ran side by side for third as many great two and three cars battles waged throughout the field.  Tim Siercks looked strong as he moved inside of the top five with eight to go.  Dave Born spun in turn three slowing the field down for the last time.  On the restart Bridley and Wheeler made a little contact allowing Craig Bentzin to charge into the third spot while Tim Siercks and Travis Krause battled for fifth. Coming to the line for the white flag Bentzin worked under Wheeler for second while Sabraski cruised home for a straight away win.

Shaun Wehlage had his number drawn for the Home Federal Frequent Flier money.  If Wehlage the pole sitter could come home with the feature win he would receive a $100 bonus while a lucky fan who caught the Frisbee in the stands would also receive a $100 savings bond courtesy of Jerry Bloom and Home Federal.  Wehlage wasn’t to be denied the bonus on this night as he jumped out to an early lead as the field battled three wide for the first three circuits of the speedway.  With twelve laps remaining Danny Hanson worked into the third spot and started to put pressure on Steve Eischens.  Jamie Johnson moved into the battle with Hanson and Eischens in a great race for second.  Wehalge continued to cruise out front building up a straight away lead as Hanson moved into second.  Wehalge had a slight scare as he touched a lapped car with four to go.  Johnson moved past Eischens and continued to pressure Hanson for second.  Wehlage took the win by a straight and the bonus cash.

Kevin Hager started on the outside pole and moved out front early on in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature.  Coming out of four on the second lap Dustin Nelson moves under Hager and Cory Mahder to take over the lead. Ryan Aho found the top side the fast way as he moved from sixth to second on the next lap powering around on the high line.  The rest of the field was stacked up double wide on the super fast track.  Kyle Peterlin started to work on Mahder for the third position.  Peterlin was working the low line on the speedway while Mahder was planted in the middle.  These two ran side by side for five laps as the battled it out. Peterlin finally got the run and moved into third.  Marshall Fegers also found the bottom to his liking and worked into the top five and started to put pressure on Mahder for fourth.  A restart with four to go found Aho and Nelson running the top and Peterlin and Fegers around the bottom as both lines worked well with neither line being preferred.  Dan Gullikson worked around Mahder with two to go as Aho took home the win followed by Nelson and Peterlin.

Although the car count was down in the USRA modifieds the racing action was still the top quality event expected from those drivers.  Tim Donlinger dominated the feature starting from the pole and taking the lead in corner one.  Bruce Angst and Jesse Frericks duked it out for second with Brad Waits waiting for that mistake.  Frericks dropped back as Angst and Waits swapped spots for the next couple laps.  The yellow flew with thirteen to go.  Nate Wasmund took advantage of the restart to move into third as Donlinger again pulled away from the field.  Wasmund then worked on Waits for second as the field had great racing action with three and four wide battles for seventh on back.  With six to go Waits pushed in turn two and Wasmund moved into second.  Donlinger took home with the win by over a full straightaway.

Thirty one WISSOTA Late Models set a new attendance record for the speedway with Nick Herrick taking the early lead.  Paul Novotny and Don Eischens were side by side for second with Curt Myers behind them. Myers squeezed between the duo to take over the second position.  John Kaanta started to work on Novotny for the third spot  Thirteen laps showed on the scoreboard when Myers worked past Herrick.  Herrick slid back further as Novotny and Kaanta moved past on the next lap.  Eischens had a battle going with Mark Teske for fifth as Kaanta worked into the second spot.  Teske then worked into third a couple laps later as Adam Hensel, Novotny and Herrick had an awesome race for fourth. With five to go Kevin Kuehn brushed the front wall sliding his car sidways.  Steve Yaggy piled into the parked car at full throttle ending both of their nights in the horrific crash.  Both drivers walked away on their own power.  Myers led on the restart as Kaanta held onto the second spot with Teske third.  Kaanta gave Myers a couple good runs at the end but Myers would not be denied and held on for the win.

Ten cars started the dwarf car feature as a heat race rollover sent a couple to the pits for the night.  Todd Keihne took the early lead with Mike Gaines in second.  Gaines moved into first on lap two.  Roger Torgerson and Drew Jech battled for third as the field spreads out.  Jech was making the top of the track work and moved past Kiehne for the second spot.  Jech put pressure on Gaines for the remaining circuits of the race but Gaines took home the win.
