Adams Receives Gift

On Tuesday night June 15 the Deer Creek Speedway started off the Creek Speedweek with the 3rd Annual Ack-Attack Show.  The event was sponsored by Tolly's Time out in Austin, Syverson Automotive and Minnesota Corrugated of Albert Lea.  The Ack-Attack name is in salute of Eddie Ackerman a local race fan who is always in the crowd and helps spread the enjoyment of the sport with others.  The show featured some great racing action with the United States Modified Touring Series on hand along with the WISSOTA Super Stocks and Street Stocks

The twenty five lap WISSOTA Super Stocks pulled onto the track first with Bill Clemens taking the early lead.  Dave Haberman and Brad Peterson raced for the second spot being closely followed by Kelly Anderson.  Haberman took the second position with twenty one to go as the field starts to string out slightly.  Anderson moved up onto the bumper of Haberman with seventeen to go and slowly started to make up some distance to the front running Clemens.  The three were running nose to tail when Kevin Adams got moving and joined into the battle as they started to catch up to the back of the field and were lapping cars.  Adams first moved under Anderson to take over the third spot.  Behind this front pack, Adam Stockhausen, Matt Durnen, Kevin Hager and Dustin Nelson were in a great battle for fifth.  With seven laps left in the feature Adams moved alongside of Haberman for the second spot.  Adams cleared into the second spot and sat on the bumper of Clemens.  With three to go the first caution of the event came out, and during the restart Stockhausen moved past Anderson for the fourth spot.  As Clemens took the checker flag the car pulled up lame and the caution flew.  The event was yellow/checkered the next time around as Clemens had taken the white flag and the running order was reverted back to the previous lap.  Adams took home the win, Haberman second and Stockhausen third.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks put on a caution free race with Scott Olson and Travis Krause running side by side for the first two laps.  A three wide race for fifth  caught the crowds attention as Krause moved out front and pulled out to an early lead.  Shaun Wehalge jumped to the extreme high line around the track and worked into the top five, in front of him Jim Phillips and Tom McEldowney were in a heated battle for fourth.  Thirteen laps to go and McEldwoney and Wehalge both pull of the track.  Phillips moved up to battle with Olson for the second spot.  Phillips took over the position with ten laps to go as the field really got spread out over the last ten laps with Krause pulling away for a straight away lead at the checkers.  Chuck Nerland and Steve Eischens crossed the line side by side with Nerland taking the fifth spot.

The USMTS feature was the final event of the evening with their traditional 4-wide salute to the fans.  Mark Noble took the early lead with Corey Dripps following for the first lap.  Coming out of two on the second lap Dripps drove under Noble and ran the high side of the track starting to put some distance between himself and the field.  Dan Chapman, Jason Krohn and Ron Schreiner were three wide for sixth place while Johnny Bone Jr. and Jon Tesch ran for the second position.  With five laps in the books of the thirty five lap feature Dripps had pulled out to a 10 car length lead.  Chapman next found his hands full with Tommy Myer who started twelfth in a race for the sixth spot.  The first caution flew with twenty one to go.  Bone and Noble raced side by side for the second spot on the restart.  Bone took the position as Tesch ran with Noble for the third spot.  Myer moved into join this battle on the next lap while up front Bone started to put pressure on Dripps.  Dripps continued to run the high line while Bone ran the extreme bottom of the track.  Kelly Shryock and Schreiner had a good race going for the fifth spot while with some great battles throughout the field.  Dripps still held the point with Myer moving up on Bone for the second spot as the final caution waved with three laps to go.  Dripps and Bone battled hard for the top spot on the restart before Dripps pulled slowly away for the win, Bone second and Shryock made a late pass for the third spot.
