Timm Tops Deer Creek Late Models
By Bill Nelson

(June 5) - Spring Valley Mn - Another race against Mother Nature was battled by race crews and track crew during the regular Saturday night racing action.  During the track prep the skies let loose with a light rain and mist for most of the afternoon.  About 5:00 the misting finally quit and the final prep work was completed with the cars taking the first green flag just past the 6:00 start time.  The final checker waved about 10:15 as the Sorensen Restoration and Custom Woodworking of Wabasha sponsored night came to a conclusion.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modified had their smallest car count of the season with 25 cars on hand but the drivers continued to battle hard for the feature win.  Bob Bunne took the early lead with some great 2-3 wide battles for fifth on back.  Ryan Weber and Tim Siercks were locked in a great battle for second.  With 11 to go Weber and Siercks moved past Bunne with Weber having the advantage at the line.  The caution flew with ten to go as the front runners started to work into lapped traffic.  On the restart Weber led with Albert Wytaske, Ron Houdek and Siercks in a three wide battle for second.  From the sixth spot on back there were some great two and three wide battles for position through the field.  On a restart with five to go Wytaske was found at the rear after changing a flat tire.  Houdek took the point as the field went four wide through three and four.  Coming through four on the next lap a ten car pileup slowed the pace back down.  Joe Wernecke made a strong move on the restart with a lot of two and three wide battles through the field for the last four laps as Houdek held on for the win.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks took the green flag and ran to the checkers without a caution period.  Chuck Nerland and Travis Krause started on the front row and carried this through the first lap.  Danny Hanson and Mark Hovland ran side by side for fourth as the field set up two wide behind
them.  Krause took over the top spot on the second lap and never looked back.  Hanson took over the fourth spot with eleven to go while Krause moved out to a five-car length lead.  Jason Gabrielson was working the low side of the track trying to challenge Nerland for the second spot.  With six to go Steve Eischens and Hovland battled for the fifth spot followed closely by Mark Zvorak.  Zvorak moved past Eischens for the sixth spot as the top four pulled out to comfortable leads over the field.  Coming to the white Zvorak's car slowed dramatically allowing Eischens back by while up front Krause held on strong for the win.

The dwarf car feature found front row starter Brian Kiehne taking the early lead.  David Marsow and Tate Bestor were locked in a good battle for second for the first two laps.  Bestor cleared Marsow and pulled alongside of Kiehne in an awesome battle for first.  David Lewison starting ninth on the
field moved into third on the third lap as Bestor suddenly slows and pulls off the track as a caution fly's.  Kiehne held the lead as Marsow and Lewison battled for second.  Lewison cleared into the second spot as Jeff Jech worked into the picture.  Lewison was running low on the track as Kiehne ran the top of the track up front.  Jech and Marsow were side by side with Jech taking the third spot as lapped traffic worked into play.  Kiehne held onto the top spot taking home his first checkers of the season.

Cole Queensland took the green flag for the WISSOTA Super Stock feature event.  Schatney Sanders moved into the second spot as the field ran two and three wide further back.  Chris Klinger moved to the high side of the track and after Sanders moved past Queensland, Klinger followed past into the second spot.  With fifteen laps to go Dan Nissalke worked into the third
spot as the first caution of the event flew.  Sanders looked strong upfront on the restart as Klinger, Nissalke and Dustin Nelson battled for the second spot.  Behind these three Dave Haberman started to make his presence known.  Nissalke takes over the second spot as Haberman works past Klinger for the fifth spot.  With eleven laps to go Nissalke and Nelson were locked into a
battle for the second spot.  Up front Sanders moved out to a very comfortable lead as the field battled for position.  A caution with four laps to go setup an interesting restart as Sander, Haberman, Nelson and Nissalke went four wide for a half lap.  Nelson and Haberman took advantage of it as they continued to battle for first.   With two to go Haberman took over the top spot and held on for his first win of the season.

The USRA modified race was an incredible battle again as Brad Waits and Bob Timm paced the field for the feature.  The two ran side by side for the first two laps as the field was three and four wide behind them.  Timm ran the top of the track and took the advantage on the second circuit.  Todd Klees and Jay Ihrke race side by side for fourth as the caution flew for the first time.  With seventeen to go on the restart Timm held the point as Bruce Angst and Jay Ihrke battled for the second spot.  Tommy Myer started nineteenth on the field and worked into the top five with Mark Noble close behind him.  Further back through the field they were still two and three wide for position.  With eleven laps to go the fourth caution flew as Ihrke was slowly closing in on Timm.  On the restart most of the field completed a lap as a caution for came back out for a stalled car on the back stretch. With the fifth caution 5-laps were dropped creating a five lap dash.  Jay Ihrke was credited with leading the tenth lap just nosing Timm at the line so Ihrke paced the field to the green flag.  Ihrke worked to the top of the track as Timm worked the low line trying to get by.  At the white flag Ihrke held a half car length advantage.  Timm kept working the bottom but to no avail as Ihrke held on for the win.

After jumping out of his modified and into his WISSOTA Late Model Bob Timm paced the field to the green flag.  Ben Mattick, Brad Waits and Lance Matthees moved into a battle for the fifth spot as Jeff Matjeka held the second spot.  Jim Carlson moved below Matjeka as Steve Yaggy moved up to
race him for third.  Yaggy looked strong and took the spot as Matthees moved up to battle with Matjeka and takes over the spot.  Up front Timm and Carlson moved out to a commanding lead.  With seven laps to go Ashley Anderson moved up to the middle of the track and found a groove to his liking and started to work forward.  The final caution of the event flew with four to go as Mark Teske and Ben Mattick making contact and Mattick making contact with the wall.  Bob Timm had a great run and held on for the win.
