Central States Region Super Cups News
May 15, 2007 - It has been an exciting past two weeks for the CSR Super Cups
as names new and old made trips to Victory Lane!
The Super Cups made their inaugural visit to the Madison International
Speedway on 5-6-07, opening for the Wisconsin Challenge Series (WCS).
The inner bullring made for some exciting race action as the drivers had to
finesse their way around the track. Erle Hoth won his first heat race, and
Mick Ellis won the other adult heat.
The Junior Division races were a fierce battle amongst the top 4 drivers,
Morgan Schissel, Cody Lipstreuer, Camden Murphy and rookie Kyle Brinkmann.
Camden won the heat race while Morgan Schissel held on for the feature
win.
In the Madison adult feature, the race was marred by several single car spins
coming out of the slick turn 4. However, the racing action up front was
incredible. Erle Hoth led most laps until Jeff Myers was able to pull ahead
for the lead with only a few laps to go. On the final lap, as both Jeff and
Erle went high around a slower lap car, Erik Gehrke pulled underneath and
stole the victory away by leading the only lap that counts! Erle Hoth finished
second and Andy Forster third.
The Super Cup action was so exciting that it was featured on a Madison news
channel, Morgan Schissel was interviewed in the local paper, and Erik Gehrke
was a guest on the InsideArca radio show!
Not satisfied there, the Super Cups put on another amazing show at the Dells
Raceway Park, opening up again for the WCS. Under new ownership, the track,
its facilities, and its race program were incredible. Wisconsin Dells native
Jake Jump took home the fast qualifier award. In the first heat race, David
Cerer held off Jake for his first career heat victory! Another first time
winner was Sam Morici as he beat Jeff Myers by only inches in the second heat
race.
The Junior Division heat race was won by fast qualifier Camden Murphy. In the
feature race it was all Garrett Goodwin, besting 8 other cars as he jumped to
the front quickly, allowing the other fast cars to lose ground fighting for
second place.
In the 18 car feature race, a broken drive chain was all the difference. Erik
Gehrke jumped out to an early lead, but a few cautions tightened the field
back up. Then it was all Jeff Myers as he flew to the lead. However, Jimmy
Scanlon was on the only driver to keep up with Jeff and even began his pass
for the lead when a slower lap car got in the way. As Jimmy slid avoiding the
car, his drive chain malfunctioned, leaving the win to Jeff Myers, his second
feature win of the season. Erik Gehrke and David Cerer followed in
behind.
This Saturday the Super Cups make their first 2007 visit to Rockford Speedway.
The feature event will be sponsored by the Beach Park Auto Center, who will
present the winner with a special trophy and winner’s check! Jeff Myers
looks to defend last week’s win, while Erik Gehrke hopes to maintain his
narrow points lead over Andy Forster. Junior Division veterans Morgan Schissel
and Camden Murphy are tied for their points lead and look to make a difference
at Rockford. We hope to see you at the track! For more information check us
