The Season Heats Up For CSR Super Cups

The last race of May was an exciting night in front of a record size crowd at Lake Geneva. Jake Jump once again stole the pole from the  17 car field. Andy Forster was hard to pass and won the trophy dash while Erik Gehrke and Brandon Scurto won their heats.  The feature race was one of the closest finishes in CSR history! At the start of the race Mick Ellis and Gehrke traded for the lead while Jeff Myers was moving up from the back. At the finish line Forster and Myers pulled along Gehrke for a three wide finish! By just inches Gehrke won his first feature of 2006.

That excitement was followed up by the “Midwest Showdown” in Rockford. 26 adult cars and 14 junior division cars packed the track with awesome racing. Steve Naples and Andy Forster won the adult heats. Cody Lipstreuer and Greg Ballard won the junior heats.

In the feature, Gary Whitson of Indiana checked out on the field and won the 35 lap feature. Points leader at the time, Erik Gehrke, was close behind until a mechanical failure with 2 laps to go knocked him out. Andy Forster finished second with Alex Yendrzeski in third. Mackenzie Piller won the junior feature, followed by Cody Lipstreuer and Morgan Schissel.

As usual, CSR put on some of the best racing of the evening at Lake Geneva on June 10th. 18 cars made an appearance at the Speedway. The feature event went caution-less until lap 17 when Sam Morici got into the back of Jimmy Scanlan causing a spin.  When the race resumed Ken Jones finished in first with Jeff Myers, Mick Ellis and Andy Forster rounding out the rest of the field. Andy Forster also won his heat, bolstering his current first place in the points standings.

The junior division also competed twice at the Milwaukee Mile Summer Shoot-Out Series. On May 24th, Cody Lipstreuer appeared unbeatable until a late race spin. Morgan Schissel went on to win the feature, followed by Alyssa Myers and Dakota Potts. They raced again on June 14th. Morgan Schissel ran from the field and scored his second win at the Mile. The real race was for second and third place with Alyssa Myers, Cody Lipstreuer, Greg Ballard and Camden Murphy all contending at different points. Liptsteruer took second, followed by Ballard, Murphy and Myers.

The CSR Super Cup cars and drivers also made many appearances over the past few weeks. Jeff Myers, Erik Gehrke, and Cody Lipstreuer brought their cars to the ESPN Radio Racing Round Up show in Milwaukee. All three drivers were interviewed on air and shared their favorite driving moments and promoted their sponsors.  Several cars also made appearances at Memorial Day Parades in the Chicago suburbs.

The Super Cups make their first out of area race this weekend in New Paris, Indiana. Points leader Andy Forster looks to hold his points lead against the climbing Jeff Myers. Look for Jake Jump to continue his habit of taking the pole position this year. The Super Cups will then return to Lake Geneva on June 23. Many of the drivers will rush off after the race to Dixie Motor Speedway in Michigan on June 24th for a $25,000 in prizes race weekend!
