News From Douglas Motorsports Inc.
August 16, 2003
Bark River, MI…For the second consecutive racing weekend, Scott
Douglas and the Rancho Ford rebounded from tough luck in the opening round to
post a strong second-place finish and keep the #12 F-150 in the running for a
CORR Pro-4 season title. Douglas and the Rancho Ford stand just eight points
out of first place with four rounds of competition remaining.
The weekend began with another mechanical issue for the Douglas Motorsports-owned
Ford, as a failed transfer-case bearing led to an early exit from Saturday’s
points round. Douglas, a two-time Pro-4 world champion, had battled
intermittent transmission issues in consecutive events in July, leading to a
complete redesign of the Rancho Ford’s driveline system.
“The good news is our transmission was fine, but we fell victim to an
unavoidable part failure at the worst possible moment,” Douglas said. “The
only thing you can do in that situation is regroup and focus your energy on
the next round.”
The next round found the Rancho Ford in top shape, as Douglas scored a strong
third-place start in very muddy conditions, then passed competitors Josh
Baldwin and Steve McCrossan in pursuit of breakaway leader Curt LeDuc. Track
conditions made a win all but impossible but Douglas was satisfied to remain
in the title picture with runner-up points.
“We’ve had two ‘DNFs’ in Bark River this year, so we had to put
ourselves in position for decent points in the other two rounds, which is what
we were able to do,” Douglas said. “I’m very confident we’ve got our
early-season issues behind us and that we can turn this machine loose in
Crandon (Wis.) on Labor Day Weekend.
“Then we hope to be shooting for a points championship when we close the
season in September in New Berlin (N.Y.).”
