Rancho® Ford Returns To Bark River Targeting Shot At Pro-4 Points Lead
by Drew Shippy
August 8, 2003
Bark River, MI…Two-time world champion Scott Douglas and the #12 Rancho Ford team hope to bring some sanity to a veritable traffic jam at the top of the Championship Off Road Racing (CORR) Pro-4 standings as the world’s best off-road racers return to Bark River this weekend.
Just 5 points separate the top four drivers in CORR’s premier professional class, and a pair of strong finishes by any team this weekend could greatly clarify the murky Pro-4 title chase. Of course, Douglas whose Rancho Ford F-150 stands third overall and just 4 points out of the lead in spite of a series of driveline problems is hoping he’ll be on top at the end of the weekend.
“We’re in excellent shape in spite of the mechanical issues we faced in consecutive rounds in Crandon (Wis.) and the first round last month at Bark River,” Douglas said. “Now that we’ve got that issue settled, we can rely on our truck’s speed and handling advantage and set out to take the checkered flag.”
With two wins and 102 points, Carl Renezeder currently heads the Pro-4 standings, followed by Curt LeDuc (no wins, 100 points), Douglas (one win, 98 points) and Johnny Greaves (two wins, 97 points).
In CORR’s first Bark River weekend in mid-July, Douglas faced a driveline problem that resulted in a sixth-place finish Saturday, then nursed a similar issue through Sunday’s round for an impressive second-place showing. All other systems on the Rancho Ford were virtually flawless in handling Bark River’s demanding terrain.
“Considering the problems we’ve had, I’ll take a second-place any time,” Douglas said after that round. “We’ve got a very fast truck if we’ve solved the one problem we’ve had, we’re certainly in great position for a run at the points title.”
The Douglas Motorsports-owned Ford F-150 features the most advanced engine, suspension and driveline technologies in CORR racing, including a Rancho suspension system, 750-horsepower Wolverine Performance LLC Ford Racing Technology V8 engine, Reider Racing/Precision Gear differentials, ATD automatic transmission, and BFGoodrich Mud Terrain tires. The truck gains additional power -- and its unforgettable sound -- from a DynoMax® performance exhaust system. The Douglas Motorsports crew is led by Ted Kendall.
