DTRA Concludes Inaugural Season
September 30, 2006
New Richmond, WI. - As fall descends on the Midwest , the first chapter of the
DTRA has been written. If a name were to be given to that chapter it
would undoubtedly be titled “Success”. Amid skepticism and
controversy, the DTRA challenged tradition and trudged forward bringing three
successful race tracks into the fold. Superior Speedway, River Cities
Speedway and Cedar Lake Speedway swapped convention for innovation and
benefited from a fresh start and instant success. The DTRA instituted an
affordable Goodyear Spec tire program, utilized common sense rules, gave their
drivers a voice, and revealed a generous point fund along with a unique point
structure.
Momentum built through the spring and into summer as the excitement and
success spread like wildfire throughout the five state region. Drivers
boasted on how much money they saved using the Goodyear tires. “I used
6 tires all year long!” stated Butch Madsen, DTRA’s 2006 Street Stock
Champion. “The tire is affordable, refires and wears like steel!
The tire couldn’t be better.” commented Pat Doar when discussing how few
tires it took to win the Cedar Lake Speedway Championship, Superior Speedway
Championship, The 100 at CLS and the 2006 DTRA Late Model Championship during
the inaugural season.
Over 1,000 drivers took the green at DTRA tracks in 2006. Truly a major
accomplishment! In addition to the Goodyear spec tire success, the point
structure was an absolute home run. Drivers accumulated the 10 best
shows from April thru July at the three DTRA member tracks. After July,
the top 10 drivers were locked into their own group and resorted to have no
more than 5 points separate them from the driver directly ahead of them.
The second ten were also segregated into their own group in the same
manner. After August 1st thru Sept 15th drivers then used the 5 best
shows to determine who holds the hardware at the year end finale, THE 100 at
Cedar Lake Speedway. This format was meant to help the racer by allowing
them to run one track and still battle for a sanction body’s
championship. This was the case as Dave Cain, the 2006 DTRA Modified
Champion finished on top by only racing one track! Truly unheard
of!
The point battles were very close in each division going into the last
event. Drivers were allowed to use their best point night at THE 100’s
four day format. The Late Model division’s point battle came down to
the last race as the 2nd thru 5th place drivers were racing for 1st thru 4th
on the track. How they finished would determine the final top 5.
They were swapping spots as well as $20,000 with each pass. This is the
excitement the DTRA envisioned when choosing their point structure. Fans
were on their feet to see who would get $10,000 and who would get
$2,500! In the end Steve Laursen’s win locked up 2nd with Brent Larson
close behind.
The DTRA is proud to announce 2006 season champions as well as top 25 point
finishers in their 5 respective classes.
