DTRA Releases Format For "The 100" At Cedar Lake Speedway
July 20, 2006
New Richmond WI
As summer roars on and point championship races are being established, the
DTRA is proud to announce their year end event. “The 100” will be
held at the legendary Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond Wisconsin September
13th through 16th. This year end event has become the one everyone talks
about all year. For many years drivers and fans have migrated to the
3/8” mile high banked speed mill nestled in western Wisconsin’s farm
country in September. This year promises to deliver the same great
racing and atmosphere that all have become accustomed to in years past.
The inaugural DTRA season has brought new excitement, money saving rule
changes, and a unique point structure to short track dirt racing in the
Midwest. This year’s event boasts the same four days of racing and fun
but with a new name and improved format.
The weekend will kick off Wednesday evening, September 13th, with a new class
of car making its first appearance at Cedar Lake Speedway. In addition
to the traditional program of Street Stocks and Midwest Modifieds, Pure Stocks
will be added to the race card. “Pure Stocks will be a great addition
as the number of them in the area has increased significantly the past couple
years and most do not have a place to race that week”, stated Brad Both of
Cedar Lake Speedway. “Further, the racing will be intense as the
Street Stocks always put on a great show as they speed around the oval
practically glued to the track, while the Midwest Modified class has truly
established itself as not just an entry level class but an ultra competitive
class boasting high car counts and talented racers.” All area Pure
Stocks will be legal to compete in this event. Pure Stocks that normally
race at Kopellah, North Central, Red Cedar, Rice Lake, Eagle Valley, Superior,
Ashland, Hibbing, Grand Rapids and Proctor or anywhere else in the area are
welcome.
Thursday, September 14th will present another exciting change as Super Stocks,
Modifieds and Late Models will all take the track for the first time on the
same night in preliminary action. Better yet, fans will be entertained
on Thursday with a full race program including heats as well as features in
all three classes. Drivers will first run a heat race lined up by a pill
draw. Following heat race action, the top 18 drivers by way of passing
points will be transferred to the nightly qualifying feature. Then, 19th
through 42nd in passing points will be placed in a nightly last chance
race. The top 6 in the last chance race will transfer to the nightly
qualifying feature. Thursday’s A-mains will be 30 laps for late
models, 25 for Modifieds and 20 for Super Stocks. The top 8 finishers in
Thursday’s qualifying feature will stack the inside 8 rows of the big dance
on Saturday night. Better yet, drivers that compete in the main event
and last chance race on Thursday night will be rewarded with cash and/or
product incentives (details to be released soon).
Friday, September 15th, will again treat fans and drivers alike to another
full program of heat races (lined up based on pill draw), a last chance race
for drivers in 19th through 42nd, and a main event in each of the three
classes (Super Stocks – 20 laps, Modifieds – 25 laps, and Late Models –
30 laps). Again, those finishing in the top 8 spots of the main event on
Friday will qualify for the big dance on Saturday and will fill the outside 8
rows of the big dance. As on Thursday, drivers that compete in the main
event and last chance race on Friday night will be rewarded with cash and/or
product incentives.
Saturday night, September 16th, will present an exciting night of features
only with three B features in all three divisions to fill rows 9-11 of the
main event (6 spots) as well as a last chance race for finishers 3rd through
8th in each B with the top 2 transferring to the main event.
Participants will accumulate passing points in their heat and qualifying
features Thursday and Friday. These points will line up the three B
features on Saturday. The last chance race will be straight up based on
the driver’s finishing position in the B main. The final races of the
evening will be a 40 Lap Late Model race, 30 lap Modified race and 30 lap
Super Stock event.
“It doesn’t get much better than this”, stated Steve Kaufman of the DTRA.
“Drivers will have 4 shots at getting in the big dance between the
preliminary features on Thursday and Friday, the B mains on Saturday, and the
last chance race before the main events. Further, fans will see more
racing action than they ever have with complete shows on Thursday and
Friday. We couldn’t be more excited!”
The DTRA will allow Hoosier racing tires to be run along with the G60 Goodyear
Spec Tire for this event in all classes except Late Model. This will
allow drivers that have made Cedar Lake Speedway their choice for years in
September to race without having to change tires.
“The 100” tire rule is as follows. Drivers will establish which tire
brand they intend to run that night in their heat. The same brand they
run in the heat each night must be run in the nightly last chance and
qualifying features. Further, in the A-main on Saturday, a driver must
run the same brand of tire that they qualified for the main event with.
Drivers cannot mix brands of tires. They must run all Goodyears or all
Hoosiers.
Late Models: Goodyear G50 only
Modifieds: Goodyear G60 or Hoosier E-Mod tire “H” on the right rear and
“A” on the other 3 corners. Siping allowed only on Hoosier tires.
Super Stocks: Goodyear G60 or Hoosier E-Mod tire. “H” on the right rear
and “A” on the other 3 corners. Siping and grooving allowed on the
Hoosiers.
MW Mods: Goodyear G60 or Hoosier E-Mod tire. “H” on the right rear
and “A” on the other 3 corners. Siping and grooving allowed on
Hoosiers.
Street Stocks: Goodyear G60 or Hoosier Dirt Stocker or Super Dirt Stocker are
allowed. No grooving or siping of Hoosiers.
Another twist will be thrown into the mix as “The 100” will also be a DTRA
sanctioned event and each night drivers choosing to run Goodyears will receive
points counting towards DTRA’s Championship Chase on Wednesday, Thursday,
and Friday. By rule, points are awarded in heats and features
only. Example: If a driver wins the heat but ran Hoosiers and the second
place driver ran Goodyears the second place finisher would receive 1st place
DTRA points. The passing point portion of the event does not apply to
DTRA points. As a result, DTRA drivers will get an additional shot at
claiming a piece of the $90,000 DTRA point fund and CLS will be crowning the
DTRA Late Model champion during the 100 as one driver will be $15,000 richer
with the last points race being Friday, September 15th! The crowning of
the other 4 divisions will take place on Sunday, September 17th at Superior
Speedway as that is the last points race for those divisions.
Last, don’t forget about the party in the pits. This has become a
tradition at the track! Rub elbows with your favorite drivers and have a
great time. Stay tuned as the purse and product incentive awards will be
released in the coming weeks.
