Rain Dampens Action At Cedar Lake
New Richmond, WI - 6/25/2006 - Despite the threat of rain all afternoon and
evening, brave fans and drivers gathered for the weekly Saturday night ritual
of side-by-side action on the high banks of Cedar Lake. Drivers feared
the rain much less than the fans as 120 race teams checked in to do
battle. The five classes flew through heat racing action with little
trouble as only a few cautions were thrown before the field moved into the
evening’s features.
DTRA Street Stocks were the first feature of the evening with Jeff Heintz and
Jason Vandekamp redrawing the front row. Vandekamp bolted to the front
ahead of Heintz and Chris Peterson early on. By the halfway mark
Peterson had gotten by Heintz for second and pulled even with Vandekamp in a
battle for the lead. Vandekamp fought off the charge and remained at the
helm but Peterson didn’t go far and came back at him again a few laps
later. As the field took the two-to-go sticks, rain began to fall and
halted the program. After a brief period of waiting, the Street Stock
feature was called complete two laps short of the finish with Vandekamp
claiming the victory ahead of Peterson and Heintz.
The remaining four features were split up into two separate events with the
Super Stocks and Midwest Mods running double features next Saturday night,
July 1st. The Modifieds and Super Late model features will be moved to
the following Saturday night, July 8th for a double feature event that
evening. Mark those on your calendar as fans those nights will still be
charged the regular admission price but be treated to two features in the
respective classes.
This Wednesday night, June 28th, four-time Nextel Cup champ Jeff Gordon will
making an appearance at Cedar Lake in addition to 360 Sprint cars, Super Late
Models, and Modifieds that evening. Admission price is $20 for adults
and with admission get entered into a drawing for which 50 lucky fans will be
invited to meet Jeff and get an autograph. Next weekend, July 1st, is
the annual Firecracker event with a full show of DTRA classes, double features
in Midwest Mods and Supers, and not to mention one of the best fireworks shows
in the region!
