By Ron Bernhagen

April 12, 2006.  New Richmond, WI.  The 2006 season will kick off with a doubleheader opener on Friday and Saturday, April 14 and 15.  Friday will feature a full show of super late models, modifieds, super stocks, midwest modifieds, and street stocks.  Saturday’s action will see the first of seven sprint car shows this year.  The CLS 360 sprint cars will compete in the 5th Annual Billy Anderson Memorial.  Super late models, modifieds, super stocks and midwest modifieds will also be racing that night.

The second sprint car event will see an encore appearance from the CLS 360 sprint cars on May 13th.  A full show of DTRA super late models, modifieds, midwest modifieds, and street stocks will also be presented.  The second annual school bus race night is scheduled for Saturday, May 20.  Area high schools will be given a bus to decorate and someone from the school will be picked to race it.  This race is guaranteed to entertain you.  A full show of all classes except modifieds will also be racing.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 15, 16, and 17, the 8th Annual Masters weekend will be on tap.  Thursday's action will consist of a complete show for DTRA modifieds, super stocks, midwest modifieds, and street stocks along with practice for the late models and sprint cars.  Cedar Lake Speedway will rock on Friday when, for the second consecutive time, the IRA 410 sprint cars will join the Masters for the first of two complete shows.  Also for the second time at CLS, the World Dirt Racing League (WDRL) and the Lucas Oil Late Model DirtCar Series will co-sanction the late model portion of the event.  Two complete shows will await the likes of Donnie Moran, Earl Pearson Jr., Freddy Smith, Don O'Neal, Darren Miller, Terry English, Brian Birkhofer, Brady Smith, and Matt Miller from the NARA and Kyle Berck, John Anderson, Denny and Dave Eckrich, and Justin Fegers from the WDRL among many others.  Last year nearly 40 sprint cars and over 50 late models were in competition.

On Wednesday, June 28th, race fans in the area will be able to see 4-time NASCAR champion, Jeff Gordon, as he comes to Cedar Lake Speedway to address fans personally in this area for the first time in history!  Additional details and exciting announcements around this event will be released shortly.  This is one show you surely don’t want to miss!

On Saturday, July 1, Cedar Lake Speedway will present the area’s biggest and most spectacular fireworks display.  The fireworks will be even better than last year’s hard-to-beat extravaganza.  A full show of DTRA super late models, super stocks, midwest modifieds, and street stocks will be in competition.

On Monday, July 10th, the annual Outlaw sprint car show will be presented.  This year the newly formed National Sprint Car Tour will sanction the event and race fans will see many of the cars and stars they are accustomed to seeing. Steve Kinser, Danny Lasoski, Jason Meyers, Paul McMahan, Tim Kaeding, Shane Stewart, Brian Paulus, Jason Solwold, and Jason Sides are just some of the big names that will be competing that night.  CLS is talking to many other national and regional sprint car drivers and will announce a full list of drivers at a later date.  For the first time ever, reserved seats are currently available for this event at www.cedarlakespeedway.com or by calling 612-363-0479.

On Saturday, July 22nd, the CLS 360 sprint cars will make their third and final appearance of the year.  A full show of DTRA super late models, modifieds, super stocks, and street stocks will also be presented.

The USA Nationals, one of the richest dirt late model races in the country, will be held August 3rd-5th.  It will pay out almost $200,000 in prize money with the feature winner taking home $50,000, and $3,000 awarded just to start the Saturday night feature.  This year the event will be unsanctioned and have a tire rule which will undoubtedly increase car counts and guarantee dirt late model fans one of the best shows in the country.  Both nights will also include full shows for the DTRA super late models culminating in 40-lap features each night.  Opening night on Thursday will consist of a full show of DTRA modifieds, super stocks, street stocks and midwest modifieds, as well as late model practice.

The seventh and final sprint car show of the year presents the 5th Annual IRA, NOSA, and Knoxville 410 Challenge on Saturday, September 9th.  This event, which brings together two different sprint car sanctioning bodies and all the stars from Knoxville Raceway, had almost 50 cars in competition last year.  The night will also serve as the 6th Annual Jerry Richert Memorial and will no doubt once again be an open wheel fan’s dream come true.  Midwest modifieds will also be racing that evening to make it an all open wheel show.

The second to last event of the season at Cedar Lake will be the annual “100”.  This year’s event will bring more excitement and energy than ever before.  Details will be announced at a later date.

On Saturday afternoon, September 23rd, CLS will bring the curtain down on its 49th year with the 2nd Annual $15,000 to win Enduro race.  The highest paying enduro in the country will take to the track at 1:00 p.m. for 200 laps or two hours, whichever comes first.  Last year’s race was a huge success and this year’s race promises to be the same.  The first 150 entries received will start the race which is open to most 4-cylinder cars.  For rules and other information concerning this race, visit www.cedarlakespeedway.com
