Fan-Friendly Format Announced For The USA Nationals
By Ron Bernhagen
February 26, 2006. New Richmond, WI - The 2006 USA Nationals at Cedar
Lake Speedway, one of the richest dirt late model races in the country, will
have a format that appeals to both race fans and drivers. The show, held
August 3rd-5th, will pay out almost $200,000 in prize money with the feature
winner taking home $50,000, and $3,000 awarded just to start the Saturday
night feature.
Friday's action will consist of time trials, heat races and a dash to line up
the big feature on Saturday night. The two fastest qualifiers are
guaranteed the last two spots in the dash, but can try and improve their
starting position in the dash by finishing up front in their heat races.
For the 12-lap heat races, the top 36 cars in time trials will be inverted.
"Because of the inversion, the heat races will be extremely intense with
the fastest drivers in time trials trying to make it to the front to qualify
for the night's dash and Saturday's $50,000 to win feature," stated Steve
Kaufman of Cedar Lake Speedway. "They'll be like mini feature
events."
The dash will be lined up based on heat race finish and will determine the
front rows of Saturday's feature.
Saturday's program will have race fans on the edge of their seats with B
features and the big 100-lap, $50,000 to win, $3,000 to start, grand finale.
Both nights will also include full shows for the DTRA late models culminating
in 40-lap features each night. Opening night on Thursday will consist of
a full show of DTRA modifieds, super stocks, street stocks and Midwest
modifieds, as well as late model practice.
