New Faces In Victory Lane Adds Excitement To Great Feature Racing

New Richmond, WI; July 30, 2005.  118 race teams checked into the pit gate all looking to not only take a shot at picking up an elusive feature win, but also making final preparations for next weekend’s USA Nationals and Pepsi Cup events.  Next weekend promises to be a Late Model fans’ dream weekend with the combination of the two events.  The pre-registration for the Pepsi Cup portion of the event has reached 50 cars, all which will then receive two free Goodyear Racing Eagle tires.  The World of Outlaw Late Models and their famed “Dirty Dozen” all scheduled to enter the $40,000 to-win show.  Several of the Dirty Dozen also reported to be climbing behind the wheel of Super Late model machines in each of the two $5,000 to-win Pepsi Cup shows.  Wissota Streets, Supers, Midwest Mods, and Mods make up Thursday’s opening night show; then Late Models take over the speedway for the remainder of the weekend battling it out for over $175,000 in total prize money!

Wissota Midwest Mods were the first feature of the evening as Carth Mitchell and Dane Durbin redrew point positions.  The field was slowed very early as a large pileup coming out of turn two on the first lap wrecked several cars.  Durbin used the top side to jump out front early but was kept in close check by Mitchell, Brandon Lampert, and Vince Corbin.  As the laps wound down, Durbin began adding to his lead until a caution for contact between Justin Schill and Lampert sent Lampert spinning into the turn four infield bringing out the caution.  On the restart with two laps to go, Durbin got a jump on the field and continued on to pick up his first ever Cedar Lake feature victory!  Congratulations to Dane and his racing team.

Wissota Street Stocks marched onto the speedway next with Scott Splitstoesser and Chandra FjojrdenNord leading the pack to the green.  FjojrdenNord jumped out to the point early with Jim Gullikson applying heavy amounts of pressure to her rear bumper.  Chris Peterson joined the pair at the front in an attempt to get around the hot shoe FjojrdenNord.  A caution flew on lap 11 as Jason Vandekamp spun the 6 machine in turn two.  On the restart Gullikson jumped all over the race leader FjojrdenNord but he couldn’t make it stick.  Your winner tonight might be the first female winner in the history of the speedway, Chandra FjojrdenNord!  Congratulations to Chandra, her racing team and sponsors.

Wissota Modifieds took to the speedway next as Jason Schill and Scott Splitstoesser lined the front row.  A pileup coming out of turn three brought the yellow out on lap one.  On the second try Schill assumed command but Dave Cain again showed his strength early as he powered into third behind Schill and second place runner Tyler Keyser.  Cain wound the 2 machine up on the outside as he made it three wide for the lead on lap three.  Cain used the topside momentum to power past the group and assume command of the lead.  Thatcher began his move as he slid into third and began tracking down Keyser.  Splitstoesser was running a strong fourth with Schill and Larry Zeller in a tight battle for fifth.  A yellow flew on the speedway for debris on lap 12 bunching up the field behind Cain.  On the ensuing restart, Keyser and Thatcher went side-by-side for several laps and in the process let Cain slip off into the night and pick up yet another feature win.  Thatcher held the advantage across the starting line to take the second spot away from Keyser.

The Impact Printing Super Late Models came rolling out onto the speedway next with Paul Brust and Joey Jensen the first to see the green flag fly from the front row.  Jensen drove to the cushion and was able to get past Brust for the lead on lap number one.  Joel Cryderman showed his hand early and moved quickly into second spot with Jerry Redetzke and Ron Schreiner running closely behind.  But about this time Pat Doar found a quick line around the speedway and began his charge to the front, moving into 5th by lap eight and forth spot by lap 10.  By this time, up front Cryderman had caught the rookie Jensen and pulled even with him as the pair came across the stripe dead even taking the halfway sticks.  The pair stayed that way for several laps until Jensen was able to again move past and resume command.  Behind the leaders yet another great battle was raging for the third spot between Jerry Redetzke and hard charging Pat Doar.  Brent Larson made his way up into the fifth spot after coming all the way from the tail of the field.  As the laps wound down Jensen seemed to almost get stronger yet as Cryderman couldn’t find the speed needed to get by the leader and stay there.  The Redetzke and Doar battle continued as Jensen took the white flag and continued on to come across the checkers and pick up his first Super Late Model feature victory!  Congratulations to Joey, the entire Jensen racing team and all their sponsors.

Wissota Super Stocks rounded out the evening with their feature as Joe Nelson and Cory Davis lead the field to the green.  Davis jumped out front early but immediately felt heavy pressure from Dan Carlson and Greg Nippoldt.  Tony Gates slid into the fourth spot but was being tracked down by a three wide battle for fifth as the field took the halfway mark.  Using the top side momentum, Carlson was able to drive around Davis and assume the point.  Davis kept digging and didn’t let Carlson get too far out front.  The yellow waived over the field as Ryan Wiome said hello to the concrete in turn three.  That gave Davis a shot at Carlson on the restart with only 7 laps remaining.  Carlson used the restart to his favor and he was able to put a small 2 car length lead between him and Davis.  Behind the leaders the entire field was bunched up and slicing for positions all over the race track.  As the laps wound Davis closed the gap and tried diving into turn three to pull even with Carlson on the last lap.  A valiant effort that came up a little short as Carlson was able to hold on for the feature win with Davis coming home second and Cory Mahder in third.
