Cedar Lake Speedway Gearing Up For USA Nationals
By Ron Bernhagen

July 19, 2005; New Richmond, WI – The crown jewel of Cedar Lake Speedway’s schedule, the 18th ANNUAL USA NATIONALS, takes to the track Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, August 4, 5, and 6, and will pay the winner $40,000.  For the first time, the event will be sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.  “We are very excited to have drivers such as Scott Bloomquist, Billy Moyer, Dale McDowell, Dan Schlieper, Rick Eckert, Steve Francis, Clint Smith, Shane Clanton, and Chub Frank return to the USA Nationals," exclaimed Steve Kaufman of CLS.  "Moreover, our fans will see drivers such as Tim McCreadie, Josh Richards, and John Blankenship who have never been to Cedar Lake Speedway before."

In a move that will bring a lot of anticipation to this year’s USA Nationals, the Pepsi Cup for Local Late Models, originally scheduled for May but rained out, will be included on Friday and Saturday, August 5 and 6.  Traditionally a split show with heats one day and features the next, it will now be two complete shows.  Each night’s feature will pay $5,000 to the winner.  “Cedar Lake Speedway wanted to keep the tradition of the Pepsi Cup going and to give fans Late Model features on both Friday and Saturday of the USA Nationals and decided this would be the best way to accomplish that,” said Steve Kaufman.

In addition, thanks to Rick Gondik Law Office and Badger Storage and Excavating, the Pepsi Cup will have a huge incentive for one driver. Jerry Redetzke, who won the July 16th feature at Cedar Lake Speedway will pick up an extra $5,000 if he wins one feature during the Pepsi Cup and an extra $10,000 if he wins both features.

The big weekend starts off Thursday with a full show of WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds and Street Stocks along with Late Model practice.  The action continues on Friday with time trials, heat races and dashes for the WoO Late Models along with the first night of the Pepsi Cup for local late models culminating with a $5,000-to-win feature.  The dashes for the WoO late models will take the top finishers in heat races, scramble their starting positions, and their finishing positions will determine the lineup of the front rows for the $40,000-to-win feature on Saturday night.  Saturday’s finale will include the semi-features and the huge $40,000-to-win feature for the WoO portion of the show.  The Local Late Models will once again present a full show for the last night of the Pepsi Cup with the winner once again taking home $5,000.  Many local and regional late model competitors have already indicated they will be racing in the WoO portion of the USA Nationals as they will be allowed to enter the World of Outlaw portion of the event without making changes to their cars.

Racing begins each night at 7:00.  For more information or to order advance discount tickets, go to www.cedarlakespeedway.com or call 612-363-0479.
