Cedar Lake Speedway Racing As HOT As The Temperature
By Craig Kaufman
July 16, 2005; New Richmond, WI. Many of Cedar Lake Speedway’s future
young drivers were able to brave the heat as temperatures were soaring well
into the 90’s and came to enjoy some great mid-season racing action at Cedar
Lake Speedway’s Kids night. Many of those young future racers got
their first laps around a racetrack as they had the chance to ride in a school
bus for a couple laps around the Cedar Lake Speedway. 119 cars checked
into the pits which included a great field of 28 Impact Printing Super Late
Models, all of which had their driver and car entry fee paid for by Badger
Storage and Excavating as well as an increased purse for the top two finishers
of the Super Late Model feature compliments of Rick Gondik Law Office.
The First feature of the night to roll out onto the track was the WISSOTA
Midwest Modifieds. Trevor Alms and Craig Rabenberg led the field to the
green, but the 78 of Brian Siercks was able to get by both of them on lap 1 to
take the lead. A caution on lap 4 came out as the 39 of Clark Perry and
the R1 of Dan Wheeler were able to move into second and third. Soon
after on lap 7 Perry was able to get by Siercks for the lead as Wheeler
followed. Another caution flew over the track on lap 12 as Perry and
Wheeler battled for the lead, however, a great restart for Perry gave him a
big enough lead to hold on to and take the checkered followed by Wheeler.
Next out on the track was the Polydome Modifieds led by a front row featuring
the 11X of Jason Schill and the 22R of Ryan Olson. However the class of
the field proved to be coming from row 3 as Craig Thatcher in the 91 took the
lead on lap 1. Schill was able to stay within striking distance of
Thatcher until a lap 5 caution flew and Thatcher was able to pull away after
the restart. Dave Cain in the 2C was able to move up into the top 5 and
create a great three-way battle for third with Schill and the 3D of Dann
Olson. A lap 14 caution flew and brought the cars back to Thatcher’s
rear, but he once again took off to the lead but was followed by Cain who also
got a great restart from third. Cain gave Thatcher everything he had on
the final lap, but Thatcher was just too strong tonight as he was able to beat
Cain by a car length in another great battle between those two this year.
The Impact Printing Super Late Models had a tough act to follow but proved to
be up to the task as they put on an unbelievable race. Jerry Redetzke
was on hand for only the second time this year at Cedar Lake and he came out
strong as he led the field to the green. Brent Larson took off to the
lead from the front row on lap 1 and was able to hold the lead until lap 13
when Redetzke was able to get by him after battling for second with Brady
Smith and Ashley Anderson. Smith was also able to get by Larson on lap
22 and slide into second and began to try to reel in Redetzke. With 3 to
go Smith was able to get within striking distance of Redetzke and on the final
lap was able to get by him with a slide job in turn 2. However, Redetzke
was not done as he returned the favor and slid by Smith coming out of turn 4
for the win. With that win, Redetzke is now eligible to win an extra
$5,000 on August 5th and another $5,000 on August 6th if he is able to win
either of those nights during the Pepsi Cup on USA Nationals weekend.
Next up was the Sunoco Super Stocks as Ashley Anderson continued to dominate
here at the Cedar Lake Speedway by starting on the front row. A first
lap caution flew and proved to set the tone for the Sonoco Super Stocks as it
was a caution filled feature. The 4 of Larry Boumeister was able to jump
out to an early lead on Anderson, however, after a lap 13 caution, Anderson
was able to get back past Boumeister. One more caution came out but it
proved to be no help as Anderson was just too strong for Boumeister and the
rest of the field and he once again took home the checkered.
The last feature of the night was the WISSOTA Street Stocks. The 44 of
Mark Froelich was able to jump out to an early lead from the front row on lap
1 until a lap 2 caution bunched the field back up. That caution helped
Jeff Heintz in the 57 pull up to Froelich and take a brief lead on lap
5. Just behind them the 21 of Jim Gullikson was closing in fast and on
lap 8 Gullikson was able to get by both Froelich and Heintz to take the
lead. Gullikson never looked back from there and was able to hang on for
another Cedar Lake Speedway feature win.
