WoO Spark Fireworks On Independence Day At Cedar Lake

July 4, 2005,  New Richmond, WI .  As the country celebrated Independence Day, the legendary World of Outlaw Sprint Cars provided the necessary fireworks to spark up a packed Cedar Lake Speedway.

In heat race number one, the King of the Outlaws showed why he has a 260 point lead in WoO standings as he overpowered the field in route to picking up the heat race win.  Local favorite Craig Dollansky looked extremely strong in heat race number two as he jumped out to an early lead and never let off the gas on his way to a green to checkered heat race win.  Heat race number three saw young hot shoe Brandon Wimmer start outside The Dude Danny Lasoski.   Wimmer wasted no time blowing around The Dude in turn one and never looked back as he cruised to a solid heat race win.

Dash number one, which determined the inside starting spots for the first six rows of the A feature, had Steve Kinser and Donny Schatz on the front row.  In just a replay of his heat race, The King Steve Kinser dropped the hammer on his competition and cruised to the win; securing his inside front row starting spot in tonight’s A Main.  Dash number two had Sammy Swindell and Craig Dollansky leading the field to the green with Swindell smacking the gas first to assume command of the race.  McCarl and Kraig Kinser battle for second, but Swindell walked away from the two to pick up the dash win and front row starting spot.

The Wissota Modified A feature was the next event on the speedway with Craig Thatcher and Nolan Olmsted redrawing the front row.  With the track just re-laid and in perfect condition, Thatcher moved to an early lead with Steve Arpin on the gas and coming hard behind him.  Dave Cain found the low groove early and began putting pressure on Olmsted for third on lap three and by lap four had the position.  Cain used that low groove to drive by Arpin with a sweet slide job coming out of turn two on lap six to take command of the second position.  By halfway, Thatcher began encountering lapped traffic with Cain pulling even with Thatcher for the lead as Thatcher got tangled with a lapped car which brought out the yellow with 10 laps to go.

On the restart, Cain pulled even with Thatcher heading down the backstretch but the yellow was waived again as the back of the field got tangled coming to the cone in turn four.  This time Cain put a sweet move on Thatcher coming off turn two to motor by down the backstretch and assume command of the lead.  Behind him, Thatcher had his hands full with Arpin for the second spot.  Doug Gustafson drove into a solid fourth spot with Olmsted and Tyler Keyser battling for fifth.  In the meantime, Cain cruised off to pick up yet another feature win here at CLS in 2005.  Congratulations to Dave, his racing team, and sponsors.

The World of Outlaws A Feature was the final event of the evening as the two most winning drivers in the history of the WoO earned front row starting spots.  With Sammy Swindell on the outside and Steve “The King” Kinser on the pole, the field took the green to a packed house of screaming fans.  Kinser powered off the cushion to the early lead with Brooke Tatnell running second and Swindell holding down third.  Only six laps into the event the pair began encountering lapped traffic with Tatnell putting all kinds of heated pressure on Kinser for the point.  As the pair hit lapped traffic on lap eleven, Tatnell got a great run coming off turn four and blew right by Kinser for the lead.  A lap later Swindell saw the opportunity and motored past Kinser for the second spot.

Kinser did not let the pair get far as he evaded lapped traffic like they were standing still and eventually caught Swindell for second.  A great move coming off turn two gave Kinser second spot back as he then set his sights on Tatnell for the lead.  Kraig Kinser and Terry McCarl were watching all this from the fourth and fifth positions until a yellow waived over the field on lap 24 for a breakdown in turn three.  The field   restarted with 11 laps to go and began slicing and dicing almost immediately.  After pressuring the Tatnell for several laps, Kinser drove right on by on the backstretch on lap 33.  But the unbelievable happened has the caution flag flew before the pair could cross the checkered stripe for a fireball out of the blown motor on Jason Sides’ machine.  That reset the field in the running order in the last completed lap; which Tatnell was still the leader!  That was all the reprieve Tatnell needed as he used the restart with two laps left to elude Kinser and pick up his first win of the 2005 season.  Kraig Kinser and Sammy Swindell got tangled entering the turn three on the final lap which ended up in Kinser’s 11K machine flipping end-over-end in turn four.  Kinser emerged form the machine unharmed but decided to run after the Swindell machine to give him his take on the incident.  Congratulations to the Tatnell racing team on the impressive win!
