Doar, Arpin, Aho, and Peterson Feature Winners At The Cedar Lake Speedway

The phrase goes like this "if its and buts were candy and nuts, we'd have Christmas all year round".  Well one can tell that to Steve Thomas and Joel Cryderman and probably receive nothing but a blank stare back.

Cryderman led the first nine laps of Saturday's Wissota late model feature pulling out to a quarter lap lead over fellow front row starter Justin Fegers.  Cryderman searching for win number one looked like the sure thing if the event ran green to checkered like the preceding modified feature.

Cryderman's lead would be wiped out by a spinning Jeff Provinzino on lap nine.  Lurking in the background was Pat Doar, also hungry for his first win of the young season.  Doar had moved into fourth place and was battling Rick Egersdorf when the ill fated caution came calling.

Cryderman led the restart and again pulled away from Fegers, Doar would dispose of Egersdorf on lap 12 and picked up third a lap later when he passed Darrel Nelson for third.  Doar then chased down Cryderman over the next few laps and gained the lead on 16.  Cryderman didn't go down easy though, as the man nicknamed "Canadian Thunder" chased Doar for the remainder of the event.

Late in the 30 lap feature, Cryderman stuck his nose under Doar's rear quarter panel in turn one,  Doar powered off the top side and withstood the challenge to pick up his first win of the season.  Egersdorf slipped by Nelson late in the race to gather third.  Nelson was able to hold on to fourth and John Kaanta rounded out the top five.

Steve Thomas had the fastest car on the track for most of the night in the Wissota super stock feature, but he didn't win.  Thomas even led late in the feature, but that lead was wiped out when a six car pile up in turn three on lap 15 put the lead back in the hands of Ryan Aho. Aho was able to hold off Thomas and Dustin Nelson on the last two laps to pick up the time shortened 16 lap feature.

Aho started on the pole, alongside last week's winner Joe Nelson.  The two drag raced each other evenly for the first couple of laps, until Dustin Nelson slid by into the runnerup spot.

Thomas trailed the top three until lap six when he went to the high side of the track and picked off Joe Nelson.  Seven laps later, Thomas moved past Dustin Nelson for second. Thomas was clearly hooked up on the cushion and tracked Aho down.  Brandon Jensen's spin on lap 15 brought out the third caution of the race slowing the field.

On the restart, Thomas charged past Aho exiting turn two.  A six car pile up in turn three on the restart negated the pass.  When the field restarted a second time, Aho protected his lead by staying in Thomas's preferred high groove.  The move paid off, as the white flag dropped, Aho held on, while Thomas was passed at the line for second by Dustin Nelson.

Greg Nippoldt finished fourth ahead of rookie Mike Loomis.

Steve Arpin led all but the first four laps to pick up his second straight win in the Wissota modified class. Rob Fenske was the early leader of the 20 lap nonstop event. Arpin passed Fenske for the lead, while Darrel Nelson, Eric Pember, and Paul Knauf all swapped positions behind the leaders.

Arpin stretched out his lead while seventh starting Joey Jensen moved into the top five on lap ten.  Jensen then disposed of Nelson, Fenske and Pember over the next five laps.

Jensen closed on Arpin throughout the remainder of the race, and had a small window open on last lap when Arpin slid into the marbles entering turn one.  Arpin quickly shut the door and went on to win.  Jensen, Pember, Fenske and Nelson followed.

Chris Peterson picked up the 15 lap Wissota street stock feature with a mid race pass of early leader Aaron Wilson.  Peterson and Wilson ran side by side during the early portion of the race, while the Gullickson brothers battled for spots behind them.  Chris, Dan, and Jim Gullickson all held third at one time during the race.

Peterson made the winning pass on lap ten and Dan Gullickson followed him past Wilson.  Peterson fended of the oldest Gullickson for the win, Chris Gullickson finished third, with Wilson and 18th starting Travis Krause rounding out the top five.
