New Richmond, WI.- It was overcast and extremely humid on Saturday night at the Cedar Lake Speedway but some brief raindrops passed by allowing for a full night of racing. John Kaanta continued his hot streak that he has been on of late, running strong all over WISSOTA country, and picking up the win Saturday night.

The first feature event of the evening was the WISSOTA Street Stock main event. Keith Tourville led early followed by Jason Vandekamp and Dan Gullikson. Jim Gullikson took over third on lap two while Vandekamp tried to hold off Chris Peterson for fourth. Dan Gullikson had gotten up to second but soon had his hands full with younger brother Jim. On lap five, Jim Gullikson made the pass for second and then moved in on Tourville to challenge for the lead. After a couple laps of side by side racing, Jim Gullikson took the position for good on lap nine and was on the way to his third feature win of the season at Cedar Lake Speedway. Tourville held on to second followed by Dan Gullikson, Peterson, and Vandekamp rounding out the top five.

Next up were the WISSOTA Super Stocks. Ryan Wiome started from the pole but would have a hard time holding off the hard charging Tim Borgeson. Borgeson stole the lead away on lap two and looked very strong out front. The caution waved on lap three when Dale Gangl and Kelly Anderson went around in turn four. Anderson was tagged with the caution and Gangl resumed running in third on the restart. Borgeson once again took off from the field with Wiome still in second. Ron Host was up to fifth on lap five and Dave Shackleton was working on Gangl for third. Mike Weber was having another great run after starting deep in the field and was up to seventh. Shackleton had got by Gangl for third and then took over second from Wiome on lap 10. Host then challenged Wiome for third and would take the position while Weber continued to move forward, taking the fifth position. Brandon Jensen was also having a strong run after starting 15th on the filed and getting shuffled back after a couple early cautions. Jensen was up to eighth on the white flag lap and nipped Gangl at the stripe to finish seventh. Borgeson picked up the win followed by Shackleton, Host, Wiome and Weber.

The WISSOTA Modifieds were up next with Dave Cain taking the lead on lap one, followed by Dann Olson and Bruce Tourville. Dennis Jones and Scott Splittstoesser battled for fifth, but Craig Thatcher drove by both of them on the outside to take the spot. Cain started to pull away early and looked very good on the bottom. Shawn Kelley was up to third, while Thatcher pressured Tourville for fourth. Thatcher took the position and charged to second on lap eight. Ron Schreiner was next to challenge Tourville, this time for fifth. On lap 11, Schreiner secured the spot. The yellow flag waved on lap 13 when Danny Thomas, Cliff Gorka, and Dennis Jones got together in three and four. On the restart, it was still Cain out front, followed by Thatcher, Kelley, Olson, and Schreiner. Schreiner picked off Olson for fourth when racing resumed on lap 14. Eric Pember was making a late race charge and entered the top five on lap 15. As the white flag came out, Cain looked to have it locked up but a last lap caution would give Thatcher a shot at the win. Lonnie Earney brought out the yellow with a spin in turn three.
Cain led the field to the cone for a three lap dash to the finish. Thatcher looked to the outside of Cain, who had been perfect on the bottom. But Cain was able to hold off the challenge from Thatcher and go on to win his second feature of the season at the Cedar Lake Speedway. Thatcher finished a strong second followed by Kelley, Pember, and Schreiner.

The final race of the evening was the WISSOTA Late Model 30 lap main event. John Kaanta and Steve Isenberg shared row one, and it was Kaanta taking the lead on lap one. Brent Larson quickly took over third on lap two. Brady Smith and Trent Follmer battled for fifth, while Larson jumped in to second. Cain took third from Isenberg on lap five, and then went after Larson for second. Cain and Larson were putting on the show for second, in a dogfight that would continue throughout the race. Cain took the second spot on lap nine, but Larson kept the pressure on. Smith was up to fifth on lap nine and continued to move forward, taking fourth on lap 13. Joel Cryderman, Isenberg, and Smith were dicing it up for position, and Isenberg got by Smith to take over the fourth spot. Cain and Larson were still contesting the second spot and on lap 17, Larson took it back. But Cain came right back, and the two swapped the second spot a few times in the closing laps. Kaanta continued to lead, but Cain and Larson were catching Kaanta as he worked through traffic. Larson and Cain were racing hard for second, and were door to door more than a few times near the end. Trent Follmer cracked the top five in the closing laps also, coming to the front in a hurry. Follmer would take over fourth from Isenberg and was rapidly moving in on Cain and Larson. Kaanta's lead was down to a couple car lengths and Follmer had caught up to the battle for second with Cain and Larson. Kaanta held on for the win, and it was a very impressive night for both Cain and Follmer, finishing second and third. A strong run for both drivers as rookies in the Late Model division. Larson got nipped at the line by Follmer and wound up fourth with Isenberg fifth.

Another great night of racing at the Cedar Lake Speedway with the next race on Saturday, August 2nd. Racing in all four divisions. If you have questions or need more information, please call 1-866-4CLSFUN or visit our website at www.cedarlakespeedway.com
