Dennis Jones Wins Firecracker Special At Cedar Lake Speedway!

New Richmond, WI.- It was a warm and sunny evening on Saturday, after rain forced the cancellation of last week's program at the Cedar Lake Speedway.  It was also the much-anticipated Firecracker Special that fans and racers have become accustomed to at Cedar Lake Speedway. And this year may have been one of the best yet.  Everyone in attendance was very impressed as the sky was lit up, and deafening explosions rocked the speedway. The fireworks display at Cedar Lake Speedway rivals any display you will see in your hometown, or anywhere for that matter.

At the conclusion of the fireworks display, the WISSOTA Street Stocks rolled on to the speedway for their main event. Ron Hanestad and Chad Walz shared row one and it was Hanestad taking the lead on lap one. Chris Gullikson and Keith Tourville raced side by side for fourth, and this would last throughout most of the race. Dan Gullikson wasted no time in advancing from his tenth starting position to crack the top five in the early laps.

The caution came out on lap six when Walz spun, and would restart at the tail after running in the top five. It would be Hanestad leading Mike Loomis and Dan Gullikson on the restart. Dan Gullikson and Loomis went at if for second, with Gullikson taking the spot on lap eight. Tourville took over the fourth spot for good, as Dan Gullikson closed in on Hanestad to challenge for the lead. It would not take long, as Gullikson made the pass on the topside coming off of two. A very impressive run from tenth to first to pick up another feature win for Dan Gullikson. Hanestad finished second, followed by Loomis, Tourville, and Chris Gullikson.

Next up were the WISSOTA Super Stocks. Ryan Wiome and Mike Weber shared row one, and it was Weber blasting in to the lead. Ron Host fell in to second followed by Wiome. Greg Nippoldt took over third, and Cory Mahder looked very strong, taking over fourth, and then third from Nippoldt on lap five.  Jeremy Kerzman entered the top five but would suffer a flat tire on lap 12 while running fifth, bringing out the caution. Host applied heavy pressure on the restart on Weber for the lead, but Weber was up for the challenge.  Dustin Nelson cracked the top five in the closing laps, while Weber continued to lead. Wiome and Nelson had a good battle going for fifth, but Nelson would hold him off to finish fifth. Weber held on for the win, followed by Host, Mahder, Greg Nippoldt, and Dustin Nelson.

The WISSOTA Modifieds took to the track next with Dennis Jones and Rick Kobs sharing row one. Jones assumed the lead, followed by Kobs and Craig Thatcher. Thatcher got by Kobs for second, while Ron Schreiner challenged Kobs for third. Schreiner would take the position and then move in on Thatcher for second. Thatcher reeled in Jones and would take the lead exiting turn two, but it would not last long, as Jones retook the top spot less than a lap later. Thatcher fell back to third, with Schreiner taking over second. Eric Pember was on the move and up to fifth. Schreiner was all over Jones for first, but Jones made no mistakes. A few late race cautions would put Schreiner right on the rear bumper ofDennis Jones but Jones was able to hold him off. Pember continued to advance, and would come up to make it a three car battle for the lead. Pember got side by side with Schreiner and looked like he had a good run on the top in three and four, to possibly take the lead. But Jones was flawless on the bottom and continued to hold off all challenges. Joey Jensen entered the top five in the closing laps, and it was Jones at the stripe, followed by Pember, Schreiner, Thatcher, and Jensen.

The final event of the evening was the WISSOTA Late Model 30 lap main event.  John Kaanta and Chad Cummings would lead the field to the green, and it was Cummings taking the early lead. Kaanta closed in and took over the top spot on lap three. Pat Doar was running third and started to close the gap on both Cummings and Kaanta. The first caution came on lap 12 when Brent Larson and Tony Bahr made contact in turn four, which left Larson spun in the infield. Bahr was charged with the caution and Larson was given his spot back, running eighth. On the restart, it was Kaanta, Cummings, Doar, Trent
Follmer, and Rick Egersdorf rounding out the top five. Cummings dove to the bottom and took the lead from Kaanta, while Egersdorf jumped up to third.  Justin Fegers entered the top five in the final laps, while Doar got by Egersdorf for third. Doar seemed to get stronger with each lap and closed in on Kaanta and applied heavy pressure. The top was the fast way around, and whenever that happens, Doar is always tough to beat and tonight was no exception. Doar drove by Kaanta and Cummings to take over the lead, and Kaanta also would get by Cummings to take second away. At the line, it was Doar, Kaanta, Cummings, Egersdorf, and Fegers rounding out the top five.

Another great night of racing at the Cedar Lake Speedway, with a spectacular fireworks show also. Racing resumes on Monday, July 7th, when the O'Reilly World of Outlaws Sprint Cars invade the Cedar Lake Speedway. Gates open at 1 PM.
