Sun Prairie, Wis., Aug. 27---Jerry Coons Jr. scored a dramatic late-race victory winning the 30-lap Hall of Fame Midget Classic, Badger Midget Series feature Sunday Night at Angell Park Speedway. Avon, Indiana's Brad Kuhn finished fourth in the feature and clinched the driver and car owner championships' with one race remaining. Kuhn becomes the 40th different driver champion in the organizations 70-year history and the first champion from the state of Indiana.

Scott Hatton jumped into the lead at the start of the feature, closely followed by Brady Bacon and Kuhn. Bacon slowed with a flat tire causing the events first caution on lap seven. On the restart Hatton led Kuhn and Coons. One lap later the caution appeared when last week's winner Adam Clarke spun.

Hatton stretched his lead over the field and held a 2.3 second lead over Kuhn, fast qualifier Danny Stratton and Coons at the midway point. Jimi Quin stalled on the track three laps later erasing Hatton's advantage. Hatton again pulled away from the trio of Stratton, Coons and Kuhn who waged a torrid battle for second place. Coons moved into second on the 21st lap pulling away from Stratton and Kuhn.

One lap later Hatton's engine began to miss-fire due to ignition problems. Coons began cutting into Hatton's 2.6 second lead. With five laps remaining Hatton's advantage was three-car lengths. Coons pulled to Hatton's rear bumper with three laps remaining. As the pair crossed the start/finish line one lap later Coons drove under Hatton taking the lead entering turn one. Coons driving the Ralph Wilke & Joe Vukelich owned Spike/Sesco-Mopar finished 2.67 seconds ahead of Hatton, Stratton, Kuhn and Steve Buckwalter as 19-cars finished on the lead lap of the event.

The 25th annual Fireman's Nationals presented by Pepsi will conclude the season at the track next Sunday Sept.3. Badger will also sanction a special $3,000-to win feature on Saturday Night Sept. 9 at The Raceway at Powercom Park (Beaver Dam, Wis.).
