Weld Racing Announces NMDOTY Sponsorship For 2006
Kansas City, Mo., Jan. 4 - Officials of the National Midget Driver of the Year
Championship and Weld Racing have announced that the Kansas City based company
will be the title sponsor of the award which determines midget auto racing's
top driver for the next two seasons.
"The 2006 season will be the eighth year for the Weld Racing National
Midget Driver of the Year, we are pleased to begin an association with the
most successful racing wheel manufacturer in the world, Weld Wheel
Industries" commented Bryan Gapinski, director/founder of the National
Midget Driver of the Year.
Brad Kuhn topped 541 drivers to win the 2005 crown, which featured 193 events
held at 74 different tracks in 22 states over 341 days. Kuhn along with
the top ten drivers, rookie of the year, and manufacturers champions (Esslinger
and Stealth) will receive their awards prior to the start of the 20th annual
O'Reilly Chili Bowl Nationals on Saturday Jan. 14 at the Tulsa (Okla.) Expo
Raceway.
Returning as associate sponsors for the season include Arizona Sport Shirts,
National Speed Sport News, and Speedway Models NZ. Seattle based Design 500
Racewear will again sponsor the rookie of the year program, while Kwik
Change Relief Valves will sponsor the mid-season point leader award.
Additional sponsors will be announced shortly.
Tony Stewart by virtue of his recent win in Fort Wayne, Ind. leads the point
standings heading into the Jan. 11 opening night feature of the O'Reilly Chili
Bowl.
