Coons Late Race Victor In Badger Midget Event

Sun Prairie, Wis., June 5-Arizona's Jerry Coons Jr. took advantage of a late
race restart, and charged past the field to win the 25-lap Badger Midget
Series feature Sunday Night at Angell Park Speedway.
Dan Boorse jumped into the lead at the start closely followed by Brandon
Waelti. Waelti passed Boorse for the lead on the sixth lap entering turn two.
Two laps later the event was halted when John Jones flipped escaping injury in
a multi-car accident. With only one more completed official lap, current
series point leader Danny Stratton was involved in an incident on the
backstretch causing him to flip.
Waelti again jumped into the lead, and with ten laps remaining held a three
second advantage over a tightly bunched pack of cars led by Cody Wisensel, and
Boorse. Dash winner Harley Slotten stalled on the 19th lap, causing a restart.
Coons who was fourth on the restart, quickly passed one car on lap 20, and
then one lap later running the high groove shot from third place into the
lead.
Once out front Coons driving the Karl Warnke owned Stealth-Fontana entry
went unchallenged the final three laps finishing 2.84 seconds ahead of Waelti,
new series point leader Davey Ray, Wisensel, and Boorse. Ray now holds a 28
point advantage over Stratton heading into the June 12 event at the Angell
Park.
