Badger Travels To Briggs Motorplex
May 8, 2005
Elkhart Lake, WI
by Mike Weaver
The Badger Kart Club once again held a championship points race away from its
home facility. And this time they went to the Briggs Motorplex to do battle.
Located inside Turn 8 at Road America, this go-kart track has gotten national
attention for its interesting course layout, including major elevation
changes, blind turns and off-camber turns. Although the skies looked
threatening most of the weekend, the club saw no rain and was able to get the
entire program in the allotted time slot.
In racing action, Austin Schmitt and Aron Scalissi seemed to have the field
covered in Briggs Animal Lite. However, at the feature, Mike Landeck was able
to squeeze that extra little he needed to capture the feature win. Patrick
Olsen and Joey Adler were the class of the field in Jr. SSX Can and they put
on a great 2-kart race all day long. But when the checkers fell for the
feature, it was Olsen who was able to cross the line first!
Dan Mussa had to piece his kart back together after a bad heat 1 crash in HPV
Heavy took out half the field on the first lap. Mussa had to replace quite a
lot of hardware but was able to get it back together for heat 2, where he
finished up front. In the feature, he was the kart on the move, finishing 2nd
from his 10th place starting position. But eventual winner Kyle Burow had been
strong all weekend and was just to much for Mussa to catch in the end.
Robby Mueller dominated the Briggs Animal Jr. Sportsman class, taking the
checkers by over 10 seconds over 2nd place Jeffery Bartz. Joe Brenner had
similar luck, demolishing the field by over 18 seconds in the feature.
Gavin Hallman continued his quest for a championship repeat by edging out
Collin Jackson for the Briggs Animal Junior feature.
Badger Kart Club will return to its home track in Dousman for the next
championship points race on May 15th. The club will return to Road America in
June to host the largest karting enduro event on Road America’s 4-mile
track, the Road America Supernationals.
