This week marked the first week of Badger Kart Club’s new TaG Master’s mini-series. TaG, which is short for touch-and-go, is a new concept in karting whereby the motors contain on-board starters.  Since the beginning of the go-kart, kart motors have traditionally been started externally by another person. However, since the TaG’s have on-board starters, it allows the driver to start the vehicle from within the cockpit.

Another feature of the TaG motor is the fact that quite a number of homologated motors have been granted the right to run in the TaG class. To date there are 8 different motor types a driver can choose to run. And with RPMs as high as 19,000, the whine of these new motors make them a huge attraction for the fans!

This year, Scott Kalish got off to a great start by parlaying his 2004 HPV Championship knowledge into a feature win in the new TaG class. Kalish was one of the more experienced drivers in the field with high-powered motors coupled with very soft tires. He used this experience to work his way from 3rd in the feature to first by the halfway point. Brian Julien, 2004’s Shifter Champion and another veteran on soft tires and fast motors, managed to hold on to 2nd place against past shifter champion Lyle Longley. On the white flag lap, Longley attempted a last-ditch late-break pass on Julien, only to slide on by and allowing Julien to capture 2nd.

Other feature races saw Robby Mueller winning Animal Jr. Sportsman and Scott Adler winning Sr. Sportsman Heavy again. New faces in victory lane included Jacob Feder in HPV Jr. and Ryan “Snapper” McNeil in HPV Heavy.  Lonny Roy took the checkers in Briggs 4-cycle Senior and Eric Sutcliffe, Tommy Mayr, Kevin Bowler and Joe Brenner all won their respective classes.
