Badger Kart Club First To Run Milwaukee Mile Road Course
West Allis, WI (August 11, 2004) - The Badger Kart Club will christen the
newly repaved Milwaukee Mile infield road course by hosting the Margay.com
Championship Enduro series the weekend of September 11 & 12, 2004, it was
announced today.
The Badger Kart Club is the Official Kart Club of The Milwaukee Mile and will
be the first organization to hold a race of any kind utilizing The ‘Mile’s
infield course, dubbed “The Power Circuit.”
Kart racers will renew the tradition of road racing on the world’s oldest
speedway, racing on the 36-foot wide ribbon of asphalt throughout the infield,
in addition to driving on the majority of the one-mile oval. The overall
distance of a single road course-configured lap remains 2 miles in
length. The infield portion of the track had been largely inactive since
the early 1980’s.
“We are extremely honored to be the first club to run the new road
course,” says Badger president Bingo Emmons. “The Badger Kart Club
is also pleased to share this inaugural event with the Margay.com Championship
Enduro Series. With their solid program and our strong membership, this
will be a great event.”
The layout is similar to other major oval speedways, such as Daytona
International Speedway and Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, which host
major karting and road racing events. The course is run clockwise, or
reverse direction on the oval, entering the infield portion in Turn 4 and
exiting the infield between Turns 4 & 3.
“We were fortunate to host Badger Kart Club’s first sanctioned race at The
‘Mile in June, and we welcome local racers and karters from around the
nation to race on “The Power Circuit here next month,” commented Mark
Perrone, Vice President & General Manager of The Milwaukee Mile.
In the June event, karts raced strictly on the oval, reaching speeds ranging
from 90 to 125mph in the draft.
The Margay.com Championship Enduro series will be contesting their
championship events September 11 & 12, which were originally scheduled for
the soon-to-be completed Autobahn facility in Indiana. However,
excessive rains, have delayed its completion. After approaching
Badger Kart Club and Milwaukee Mile officials, Badger agreed to partner with
the Margay.com series to hold the first national race on the new road course.
