Fuchs & Scalissi Double-up At Badger
August 8, 2004
Dousman, WI
Story by Mike Weaver

Mike Fuchs has been out front all year in Yamaha Heavy.  With the championship all but sewn up, Fuchs decided to pull double-duty and also raced the Yamaha Lite class this week. The cagey veteran managed to win most of the heat races and captured both features en route to a great day.

Aron Scalissi worked a litter harder than Fuchs to get his double-win. In Briggs Animal, Scalissi was hounded by David Koeferl all day and the feature was no different. But Scalissi managed to get the lead from the start and never made a mistake for the entire race, forcing Koeferl to settle for
second.  In Briggs Heavy, Scalissi benefited from some good hard racing behind him. Again, he managed to get the lead at the start, and when the passing and battles ensued behind him, it was just smooth sailing.

In Briggs Jr. Sportsman, Robby Mueller had a good day going and jumped out to take the point for the feature. With Vince Heywood in tow, the two turned lap after lap within a kart length of each other. Pete Koostra also managed to sneak up to the two top-guns as the laps wore on. As they came through the last corner, Heywood managed to get inside Mueller with Koostra following right behind. Mueller and Heywood drag raced to the finish line with Heywood taking the victory by .005 over Mueller. Koostra only lost by .131 making for one exciting and close finish!

In Briggs Animal Jr., Gavin Hallman, Garret Wescott, Colin Jackson and Kelsey Bauer put on an awesome show in the feature race.  The group broke away from the field and then started to work on each other. Almost everyone in this group managed to pass and be passed as they danced and darted around Badger’s 6/10 mile road course.  But in the end, Hallman would be King as he
bested Wescott by a little over a kart length at the line.

HPV Heavy saw a pretty bad crash in the first lap which brought out the red flag. Over half the 15-kart field was involved with karts getting airborne and a few drivers getting hurt.  After everyone was examined, 3 drivers were taken to the local hospital for precautionary measures. Once the racing was back underway, Bobby “J” Jezorski pulled away from the field and led flag to flag for yet another feature victory. Terry Thomas finished 2nd with John Skowron nabbing his first podium of the season.  Jon Ellingham managed to break Scott Kalish’s recent win-streak with a late-race pass in the sweeper turn in HPV Lite.

Other winners included Grant Hoffmeister, Gage Schneider, Bianca Schreiber, J.D. Leonard, Randy Reichardt, Kevin Willmorth, Scott Adler, Zach Emmons and Nic Johnsrud.

This coming weekend, Badger Kart Club again hosts the World Karting Association’s Manufacturer’s Cup races. This prestigious event showcases many of today’s up-and-coming racing stars, all on the local Badger Raceway.
