Zdroik, Lee, Hummelmeier, Wyttenbach, Draheim Win On Powercom Champ Night

It was Season Championship Night on Saturday night at The Raceway at Powercom
Park. With titles up for grabs in all five divisions, the stage was set for an
intense night of racing. Craig Priewe of Beaver Dam held an eleven-point lead
over Frank Firari of Lowell in the Johnsonville Brats Modified Division. Roger
Lee of Wind Lake held a slim one-point lead over defending track champion Don
Sorce Jr. of West Allis in the Northwoods Paper Converting Grand Nationals
Division. Chuck Hummelmeier of Friesland and Don Vander Galien of Wautoma were
tied for the point lead in the Dodge Central Credit Union Stocks Division.
Matt Bedker of Beaver Dam was only three points back. Eric Barth of Sauk City
was on top the Gibbsville Cheese INEX Legends/Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt
Series by eleven points over Joel Wyttenbach of Sauk City. Roger Frank of
Beaver Dam was on top the Wallys Auto Dirt Devils Division by six points
over Aaron Stolp of West Allis.
In the Johnsonville Brats Modified 20-lap A-Main, Jim Zdroik of Big Bend
swapped the lead with Billy Lemay of Lannon several times before taking
command on lap fifteen. Zdroik went onto score his second win of the season.
Craig Priewe moved up from the fifth row to finish in second and secure the
track championship. Billy Lemay had his best race of the season with a third
place finish. John Stanton of Reeseville had a strong run as he came from the
ninth row to finish in fourth. Frank Firari followed in fifth.
Roger Lee left no doubt as to whom the champion was in the Northwoods Paper
Converting Grand Nationals Division. After starting in the eighth row, Lee
quickly moved up through the traffic and then slipped by Steve Seitz of Beaver
Dam on lap nineteen of the 20-lap A-Main. One lap later, he took the checkered
flag for his fifth win of the season and won the track championship by three
points over Don Sorce Jr. Seitz finished in second followed by Sorce. Pat
Heany of West Allis drove to fourth. Dave Gorny of West Allis was fifth.
Chuck Hummelmeier captured his sixth win of the season in the Dodge Central
Credit Union Stocks Division 20-lap A-Main. With Don Vander Galien finishing
in second, Hummelmeier was crowned the track champion by one point over Vander
Galien. Jimmy Berkevich Jr. of Beaver Dam drove to third. Barry Cates of
Greenfield followed in fourth. JR Madell of Poy Sippi was fifth.
Joel Wyttenbach did all he could in his bid to repeat as track champion in the
Gibbsville Cheese INEX Legends/Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series.
Wyttenbach, using the outside groove, charged from his sixth row starting
position to take over the lead on lap thirteen of the 20-lap A-Main.
Wyttenbach remained out in front the rest of the way to record his eighth win
of the season. However, he would come up five points short as Eric Barth
claimed his third track championship after finishing the A-Main in third
behind Brad Weber of Rolling Prairie. Kevin Brill of Oostburg drove to fourth.
Joey Johnson of Slinger was fifth.
Doug Draheim of Brookfield took over the lead with one lap remaining in the
20-lap Wallys Auto Dirt Devils A-Main. Draheim finished off the final lap
and took the checkered flag for his fourth win of the season. Shaun Diebert of
West Milwaukee followed in second ahead of Shawn Klapps Jr. of Mauston. Andy
Sullivan of Horicon came across the line in fourth. Eddie Lemay III took
fifth. In the battle for the championship, Roger Frank came from the back of
the pack, after making repairs to his car during a caution, to finish in
eighth. That was good enough to claim the track championship. Aaron Stolp had
the misfortune of having his muffler come off and was forced to retire from
the event.
B-Main wins were registered by Brian Crapser of Brookfield and John Stanton in
the modifieds, Roger Lee in the grand nationals and Brandon Bobholz of Beaver
Dam in the dirt devils.
Modified heat race wins were recorded by Don Scheffler of Wauwatosa, Dylan
Koltz of Beaver Dam, Frank Firari, Jim Zdroik, and Jay Schraufnagel of Beaver
Dam. The grand national heat race wins were registered by Todd Ascherien of
Beaver Dam, Steve Seitz, and Tim Doehling of Winneconne. The stocks division
heat race wins went to Jon Schultz of Belleville, Chuck Hummelmeier, and Dan
Troyan of Menomonie Falls. Legends heat race victories were taken by Joel
Wyttenbach, Joey Johnson, and Brad Weber. In the dirt devils division, Kevin
Schutz of Madison, Shawn Klapps Jr., and Shaun Diebert drove to heat
wins.
