Barth Grabs Legends Feature At Powercom Park
The Raceway at Powercom Park
July 1, 2006
by Dennis Thompson
It was an action packed night of racing at the Raceway at Powercom Park on
Great 98 Night at the Races despite the fact that the rain claimed three of
the A-Main events.
Jon Schultz of Belleville drove to his first win in the Dodge Central Credit
Union Stocks 20-lap A-Main. Schultz, the 2005 track champion in the dirt
devils division, has quickly adapted to the stocks division and has now moved
into fourth in the point standings. Schultzs win did not come easy, as he
had to battle it with point leader Don Vander Galien of Wautoma. Vander Galien
managed to move ahead on lap fourteen, but Schultz fought back and regained
the lead on lap eighteen. Schultz took the checkered flag with Jerry Winkler
of Oshkosh and Don Vander Galien right behind. Aaron Streblow of Waupun had
his best finish of the season placing fourth. Tom Grotenhuis of Beaver Dam
also had his best run of the season crossing the line in fifth.
With the storms moving in, Eric Barth of Sauk City wasted little time moving
to the front as he charged from his outside fourth row starting position to
take the lead on lap three. Barth then powered away building up an impressive
lead while the rest of the field diced for position. During a caution on lap
twelve, the rain began to fall more heavily and brought an end to the event
and the remaining A-Main events. With the race past the halfway point, Barth
claimed his second win of the season. Phil Van Tatenhove of Sheboygan Falls,
who led the first two laps of the event, finished second. Joey Johnson of
Slinger followed in third ahead of Warren Ropp of Kalona, IA. Brad Weber of
Rolling Prairie was fifth.
Falling victim to the rain were the A-Mains for the Johnsonville Brats
Modifieds, Northwoods Paper Converting Grand Nationals and the Wallys Auto
Dirt Devils.
Modified B-Main wins were registered by Larry Zirbel of Iron Ridge, Dannon
Tessmer of Slinger and Mike Sandholm of Oconomowoc. The Dirt Devils B-Main win
was picked up by Aaron Stolp of West Allis.
Modified heat race wins were recorded by Jeremy Christians of Horicon, Frank
Firari of Lowell, Joe McGrath of Neosho, Brian Mullen of Seymour, Chad
Hummelmeier of Beaver Dam and Mike Meeker of Mazomanie. The Grand National
heat race victories were taken by Brian Gerber of Waupun and Toby Britton of
Juneau. The stocks division saw Don Vander Galien and Jon Schultz race to
wins. Legend heat race wins were captured by Phil Van Tatenhove and Joey
Johnson. The dirt devil heat wins went to Kevin Schutz of Madison, Andy
Sullivan of Horicon and Kevin Allard of Brandon.
