Powercom Park Battles Rain, Gets Some Racing In

Saturday night was the Miller Lite Season Opener for the regular race
divisions at The Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI. The rain that has
plagued the early season returned to wash out the A-Main events, but not
before some great racing action in the heat races and B-Main events. One
hundred and twenty-four cars were on hand for the opener.
In the Johnsonville Sausage Modified division, heat race wins were registered
by Joe McGrath of Neosho, Steve Mueller of Mukwonago, Jay Schraufnagel of
Beaver Dam, Frank Firari of Lowell and Larry Zirbel of Iron Ridge. Mike Conn
of West Bend beat Brain Crapser of Brookfield to the line to win the first
B-Main. Ralph Schneider of Hartland was third. The second B-Main win went to
Dan Tafelski of West Allis. Russ Reinwald of Iron Ridge drove to second. B.G.
Wood of Kenosha was third.
The Northwoods Paper Converting Grand National heat one win was recorded by
Roger Lee of Wind Lake. Lee was leading the A-Main with four laps in when the
rain put a halt to the action. Defending track champion, Don Sorce Jr. of West
Allis won the second heat.
Don Vander Galien of Wautoma and Aaron Streblow of Waupun were victorious in
the Dodge Central Credit Union Stocks division heat races.
The Gibbsville Cheese INEX Legends/Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series heat
wins went to Keith Moline of Davenport, IA, Joel Wyttenbach of Plain and Kevin
Brill of Oostburg.
In the Wally’s Auto Dirt Devils division, Andrew Araco of New Berlin, Doug
Draheim of Brookfield and Kevin Allard of Brandon drove to heat wins.
Saturday May 27 will be Legends of Racing and Fan Appreciation Night. Vintage
cars from past racing seasons along with local drivers and cars will be on
display from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The Legends of Racing Drivers include
Gene Erdmann, Homer Ansel, Norm Giese, Brian Jaeger, Ken Markwardt, Mike
Melius, Miles Melius, Dick Colburn, Jerry O’Day, Hermie Stern, Kenny
Tlougan’s wife and several others. Racing for the five regular racing
divisions will begin at 6:30 p.m. For more information on the Raceway at
