The excitement of the new season filled the air on Saturday at The Raceway at Powercom Park. The Inspection/Practice day was the first opportunity of the season for the drivers to hit the track to dial their cars in for the season ahead. Although valuable to all drivers, it plays an even more important role for the first year drivers or those switching to a new division or bringing out a new car for the first time. This was also the last of three scheduled Inspection Days that allow the teams to get their cars inspected and approved before the first race of the season. Getting the inspections out of the way prior to the opener has proven to be advantageous as drivers and crews can concentrate on car set up on race night.

Seventy-five cars were on hand to participate in the practice. A total of eight racing divisions were represented with the modifieds and dirt devils providing the biggest turnout. Other divisions taking to the track were grand nationals, stocks, legends, sprints, midgets and late models.

The first race of the season will take place on Saturday April 29 with the first in the four race “Duel at the Dam” Series. The first event of the series will feature the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series and the Badger Midget Auto Racing Association. The pit gate will open at 2:00 p.m. General Admission Gates open at 4:00 p.m. Qualifying for the sprint cars will begin at 6:00 p.m. with racing to follow. The rain date for the event is Saturday May 6.

The second of the “Duel at the Dam” Series will take place on Saturday June 3 with the IRA Outlaw Sprints and a co-sanctioned event for the Badger Midgets and POWRi Midgets. The third event of the series is scheduled for July 15 with action again provided by the IRA Outlaw Sprints and Badger Midgets. The Series finale will be held on September 9 featuring the Badger Midgets and the Johnsonville Sausage Modifieds.

The regular weekly divisions season opener is slated for Saturday May 6 provided that the rain date is not needed for the “Duel at the Dam” event. Providing the regular weekly divisions action will be the Johnsonville Sausage Modifieds, Northwoods Paper Converting Grand Nationals, Dodge Central Credit Unions Stocks, Gibbsville Cheese Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series/INEX Legends, and the Wally’s Auto Dirt Devils.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to the Raceway at Powercom Park on Wednesday June 14. Also slated to compete are the Gibbsville Cheese Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series/INEX Legends. Advance tickets go on sale on May 1. Contact the ticket office at 888-647-8899 to order.

Other events on the schedule include the MSA 360 Sprints teaming up with the Gibbsville Cheese Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series/INEX Legends and the Mini-Sprints in a special Monday July 3 program. The regular weekly program on Saturday July 8 will also serve as an INEX Legends National Qualifier event for the legends division. A two-day Modified Special is set for Friday August 11 and Saturday August 12. The stocks and grand nationals will also be in action on Friday night with the legends and dirt devils joining the modifieds on Saturday night.

The Final Points Night for the weekly divisions is set for September 16. The final racing event of the season is scheduled for September 23 with the Midwest Enduro and Small Car Series.
