Reinwald Takes Powercom Park Mod Win
The Raceway at Powercom Park

A huge crowd was on hand Saturday night for The Great 98 Night at The Raceway
at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI to watch one hundred and thirty-four cars
battle it out on the fast 1/3 mile clay oval.
Mark Brunner of West Allis grabbed the lead at the start of the 20-lap Shaver
Builders & Home Improvement Modified A-Main. The first caution of the
event came out while the field worked lap two for a spin by Larry Walter Jr.
of New Berlin in turn three. On the restart John Stanton of Reeseville made a
move on Brunner and took over the top spot. The caution waved for the second
time on lap five for an incident involving Steve Mueller of Mukwonago and Joe
McGrath of Neosho. With the green flag back out Stanton continued to lead
while the rest of the field shuffled positions. The field was slowed once
again on lap eight for Scott Lewis of Waukau on the back straight. Stanton
remained out in front after the restart but was soon challenged by Russ
Reinwald of Iron Ridge, who had worked his way up from the sixth row. Stanton
worked the high groove while Reinwald tried to get by on the inside. On lap
fifteen Reinwald rocketed off of turn two and slipped past Stanton on the
inside to take over the lead. Stantons strong run would end shortly after
as contact between a couple of cars resulted in Stanton crashing into the
front straight wall. When racing resumed, Reinwald pulled away and went onto
pick up his first win of the season. Ralph Schneider of Hartland ran near the
front throughout the race and came away with a second place finish. Point
leader Jay Schraufnagel of Beaver Dam drove from the ninth row to finish in
third. Eddie Lemay Jr. of Milwaukee moved up through the pack to take the
fourth spot. Larry Zirbel of Iron Ridge also moved up well from his seventh
row starting spot to finish in fifth.
Tim Doehling of Winneconne took over the lead from Nathan Persha of Iron Ridge
on lap five of the Northwoods Paper Converting Grand Nationals 20-lap A-Main.
Roger Lee of Wind Lake quickly moved in and began to challenge Doehling for
the top spot. Lee made several attempts to get by Doehling on the inside. Lee
would make the move work and pulled out in front on lap sixteen. Doehling
fought back and retook the lead one lap later. Lees bid for the win ended
when a rear tire went down. As the checkered flag waved, it was Doehling
across the line first to claim his second win of the season. Don Sorce Jr. of
West Allis won the battle for second with Steve Seitz of Beaver Dam taking
third. Tommy Moore of Muskego charged from the back of the pack to finish in
fourth. Nick Schumacher of Eagle followed in fifth. Sorces second place
finish moved him into the lead in the point standings.
Nate Schepp of Beaver Dam took over the point lead in the Dodge Central Credit
Union Stocks division when he drove to victory in the 20-lap A-Main. Schepp
took over the lead with just three laps remaining when he was able to get by
Jasper Drengler of Shawano. It was the first win of the season for Schepp.
Drengler finished in second ahead of Chuck Hummelmeier of Friesland.
Hummelmeier had paced the field for the first fourteen laps. Don Vander Galien
of Wautoma drove to fourth. Jerry Kope of Oshkosh finished in fifth.
Joel Wyttenbach of Sauk City added to his point lead as he captured his third
win of the season at The Raceway at Powercom Park in the Gibbsville Cheese
Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series 20-lap A-Main. Aaron Rake of Beaver Dam,
who led for several laps, drove another strong race to finish in second.
Warren Ropp of Kalona, IA won the battle for third crossing the line ahead of
Eric Barth of Sauk City. Early race leader Joe Surprise of Beaver Dam followed
in fifth.
Jon Schultz of Belleville raced into the lead on lap twelve of the 20-lap
Wallys Auto Dirt Devils A-Main. Schultz would remain out in front the rest
of the way as he captured his second win of the season. Mike Mueller of Waupun
led for a good portion of the event and finished in second. Jeremy Schwoch of
Waupun had a good run with a third place finish. Nick Firari of Reeseville
cracked the top five for the first time this season by taking fourth. Aaron
Stolp of Milwaukee was fifth.
B-Main victories were recorded by Scott Lewis and Rick Strommen of Beaver Dam
in the modifieds and by Jolene Wille of Beaver Dam in the dirt devils.
Modified heat race wins were scored by Dennis Schultz of Oshkosh, Joe McGrath,
Mark Brunner, Russ Reinwald, John Stanton and Billy Lemay of Lannon. Grand
National heats went to Shane Heaney of West Allis and Tim Doehling. Heat race
wins in the stocks division were claimed by Jerry Kope and Don Vander Galien.
Aaron Rake and Greg Hartlaub of Sheboygan Falls were victorious in the legend
heats. Dirt Devils heat race action saw Kevin Schutz of Madison, Roger Frank
of Beaver Dam and Ron Koenig of Fox Lake drive to wins.
