USAC Event Opens PowerCom Park Season

Beaver Dam, Wis.-One of the most anticipated open wheel racing events of the season in the state of Wisconsin kicks off the season at the Raceway at PowerCom Park on Saturday May 7. For the second straight season the track will host a USAC Valvoline National Sprint Car Series, and National Midget Car Series doubleheader.

"The fact that only eight National Sprint/Midget doubleheaders will be held this season throughout the country makes this a must-see event for fans" commented Rex Melius, track general manager.

Last season the event was one of four victories captured by Jay Drake on his way to winning his first Sprint Car Series title. The event which was the second of 35 events for the series played a key role in Drake's championship season giving him the lead for the remainder of the year. Drake finished 74 points ahead of Bud Kaeding for the championship. Kaeding failed to make the feature lineup for the PowerCom event.

In the midget feature J.J. Yeley made a brilliant last lap pass of Kevin Doty as the pair exited the fourth turn to capture the 30-lap feature. Yeley secured a late minute ride for the event with car owner Karl Warnke. The feature saw five lead changes among four drivers. Following Yeley, and Doty were: Davey Ray, Cory Kruseman, and Tony Elliott.

Tony Stewart leads all USAC Feature winners at the facility with two victories, while single wins have been registered by: Donnie Beechler, Doty, Elliott, Drake, and Yeley.

Gates open at 1:30 p.m. with racing starting at 4:00 p.m.  Tickets are on sale now, call 888-647-8899 or on the web at www.wismotorsports.net
