Schraufnagel Takes Checkers At Powercom Park

Tuesday night June 22 at the Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI saw
eighty-seven modifieds on hand for the Prestige Custom Cabinetry Tony Stewart
Night at the Races featuring Tony Stewart and Kasey Kahne. The highly
competitive field treated fans to two and three wide racing all night long.
Also in action were the Gibbsville Cheese INEX Legends will a field of
twenty-six cars.
Pete Laubmeier of Mazomanie jumped into the lead at the drop of the green
flag. After a caution flag for debris on the track, Jerry Phillips of Galva,
KS moved out in front getting by Laubmeier using the high groove. A spin by
Eric Van Iten of Green Bay a lap later brought out the caution for the second
time. Jay Schraufnagel of Beaver Dam wasted little time after the restart as
he powered his way into the lead on lap four. Benji LaCrosse mounted a
challenge several times but eventually was unable to keep up with the pace set
by Schraufnagel. As the checkered flag waved, it was Jay Schraufnagel across
the line in first to claim the prestigious A-Main win. It was the third A-Main
win of the season at the facility for Schraufnagel. Benji LaCrosse
finished a strong performance with a second place finish. Tim Lemirande of
Verona moved up from his eighth row starting position to take third. Also
moving up well was Mike Mashl of DePere, who drove to fourth. Sean Jerovetz of
Swamico ran near the front most of the event and followed in
fifth.
Finishing in sixth through tenth were Jared Siefert of Green Bay, Eric
Scribner of Kiel, Troy Cordes of Raymond, IA, Mike Wedelstadt of Fremont and
Brian Mullen of Seymour.
Tony Stewart developed problems on his #20 car and did not finish. Kasey Kahne
steadily moved up from his twenty-third starting position to take
twelfth.
Jared Siefert captured the first B-Main taking the win over Steve Mueller of
Mukwonago and Tim Lemirande. Brian Mullen was victorious in the second B-Main.
Lee Sohns of East Troy followed in second ahead of Scott Mullen of
Seymour.
R.M. Van Pay of Green Bay won the C-Main. Frank Firari of Lowell drove to
victory in the D-Main.
Heat race wins were registered by Sean Jerovetz, Jerry Phillips, Jay
Schraufnagel, Eddie Lemay Jr, of Milwaukee, Eric Scribner, Mike Wedelstadt,
Eric Van Iten, Benji LaCrosse, Ryan Besaw of Omro and Pete Laubmeier.
Warren Ropp of Kalona, IA jumped into the lead of the 20-lap Gibbsville Cheese
INEX Legends A-Main. Eric Barth of Sauk City moved up quickly from his fifth
row starting position and on lap seven slipped past Ropp to take over the top
spot. Ropp stayed close but it was Barth who would win the battle and score
the win. Joe Johnson of Slinger had his best race of the season finishing in
third. Adam Reed of Slinger followed in fourth. Greg Hartlaub of Sheboygan
Falls took fifth.
Legend heat wins went to Greg Hartlaub, Adam Reed and Warren Ropp.
