Rainout At Powercom Park
by Dennis Thompson
May 8, 2004
Rainy weather forced the cancellation of The Golf Club at Camelot 100 Night at
the Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI on Saturday. Racing will resume
this coming Saturday night with the Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson/Buell
Modifieds, the Dodge Central Credit Union Stocks, the Gibbsville Cheese INEX
Legends, the Northwoods Paper Converting Grand Nationals and the Wally’s
Auto Dirt Devils set to provide the racing action. With 114 cars in the pit
area the previous week for the regular season opener, the competition is
expected to become even more exciting as some of the cars that were not ready
for the opener are completed and make their way to the track. Racing
action starts at 7:00 p.m.
Special events on the schedule in the weeks ahead include the USMTS Modified
Special on May 22 & 23. A special twilight show with racing getting under
way at 4:00 p.m. is on tap for the Memorial Day Special on May 31. The program
will feature the first appearance of the season for the IRA Outlaw Sprints and
will also mark the debut of the Wisconsin Dirt Late Models Association at the
Raceway. The World of Outlaw Sprints invade the fast 1/3 mile clay oval on
Saturday night June 12 led by current point leader & 18-time WOO champion
Steve Kinser. A modified Tuesday night special is on tap for June 22. Tony
Stewart, 2002 NASCAR Champion and past champion of USAC midget, sprint and
silver crown divisions, will be on hand to compete with the local modified
stars. Stewart will be joined by NASCAR Nextel Cup Rookie sensation Kasey
Kahne. Like Stewart, Kahne’s racing roots are in the open wheel ranks of
midgets, sprints and silver crown cars. Kahne won the USAC National Midget
Championship in 2000. Half of the general ticket proceeds will go to benefit
the “Tony Stewart Foundation”.
