Yeley Scores Last Lap Win At PowerCom
By Bryan Gapinski

Beaver Dam, Wis., April 24---J.J. Yeley scored an exciting last lap victory Saturday Night capturing the 30-lap USAC National Midget Series event at the Raceway at PowerCom Park, Beaver Dam. Yeley picked up a ride late in the week, and drove the Karl Warnke owned Stealth-Fontana to his 56th career USAC National victory.

Dave Darland jumped into the lead, while attention turned to Brad Kuhn who started tenth. Kuhn was sixth after the first lap, gained two more positions the next lap, and on the third lap passed Darland for the lead entering turn three. A caution for the stalled car of Cole Carter bunched up the field on the fifth lap.

On the restart Kuhn, Darland, and Kevin Doty pulled away from the field. Kuhn held a three-car length lead, when his motor began to mis-fire, causing him to slow, giving Darland the lead on the 13th lap. Darland began stretching his lead over Doty.

Darland began moving into lap traffic on the 17th lap. Cody Wisensel spun in front of Darland as he was about to lap him, causing Darland to hit the wall, and Wisensels spun car.

Fast qualifier Josh Wise moved into second on the 19th lap passing Yeley, however got over the cushion and hit the wall ending his race. On the restart Doty led Yeley, and Davey Ray. Doty held a two car length lead for the next ten laps. As the white flag flew Yeley slid in front of Doty for the lead entering turn one, however Doty regained the lead exiting turn two. Yeley used his second slide job of the lap to pass Doty exiting turn four. Yeley edged Doty by one car length with Ray an additional car length behind in third place.

Cory Kruseman, and Tony Elliott rounded out the top five. Travis Miniea escaped injury in a heat race flip. Series point leader Bobby east struggled after hitting the wall in qualifying, and used a provisional to start the feature finishing 14th. East leads Yeley by 15 points heading into the May
21 54th annual Hut Hundred at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track.
