Powercom Park Opens With Karavan Trailer Sales 100 Saturday May 1st

BEAVER DAM, WI – The  Karavan Trailer Sales Icebreaker 100 will hit the track at The Raceway at Powercom Park Saturday and all indications are there will be a record field in attendance for the first regular show of 2004.

The event will be headlined by 100 laps of feature racing on the high banked clay oval led by Suburban Motors Harley Davidson Modifieds.  A 20-lap feature event is tabbed for the class which could feature as many as 40 drivers for the opening night show.

“When it comes right down to it we’re going to have more cars than we have ever had before,” said Rex Melius, General Manager at the track.  “The modifieds, Dirt Devils, and Street Stocks all look strong.  We had 140 drivers at our registration and practice and more came to get rules but didn’t have their car done yet.  I expect to see a solid group of cars in the pit area not only at the opener but throughout the year.”

Also competing in the opener will be the track’s other four regular divisions – the Dodge Central Credit Union Street Stocks, Gibbsville Cheese Legend Cars, North Woods Paper Converting Grand Nationals, and Wally’s Auto Dirt Devils.  Pit gates will open at 3:00 pm on opening day with the first race set to hit the track at 7:00 pm.

All other classes will also run a 20-lap feature event that evening plus a full program of preliminary qualifying races will be held.

“Just making the feature in some of our classes will be tough this year,” said Melius.  “The heat races and consolation events will be good, very good actually.  When you have to take and cut down a 30 or 40 car field to get 20 starters for a feature race you know you’ll have some good racing.”

The program will mark the start of the 2004 point season at Powercom Park.  While one night may not seem important on the surface when it comes to points and championship aspirations a season opener can go a long ways in determining the final outcome.

“I’ve heard so many guys say that if you can come out of opening night in good shape in the points then it will be a good year but if something bad happens and you get behind it’s pretty tough to catch up.  That’s not to say you can’t but it’s hard.  A bad opening night may be an omen for the whole year.”

The Raceway at Powercom Park is located just off of Highway 151 on Highway 33 in Beaver Dam.  For more information contact the track office at (920) 887-1600 or visit www.wismotorsports.com
